Pearl Harbor Naval base attacked by the Japanese on December 7, 1941. Great job by our military to rally coming from behind ,after having almost our whole Pacific  fleet knocked out , and then ultimately winning WWII. Really grateful for the efforts of those that fought for the country.

Fortunately the USS Enterprise (CV-6) was delayed by weather and was at sea on 12/7/41 instead of being  docked in Pearl Harbor. At one point The Big E was the only operational US Carrier involved in the Pacific and it was literally "Enterprise vs. Japan" .

And the Enterprise won- see Midway, Battle of. The Grey Ghost. The most decorated ship of WW11.

Recall at Midway just 6 months later,  in June 42 we had three carriers, stationed NE of Midway. We lost one (Yorktown) but splashed 4 of theirs.

Big E has always gotten the press and fame (most of it well deserved) but through the course of WW2 we produced many carriers
