Dwyane Wade Is Getting Torched In Chicago
« on: May 27, 2010, 10:54:29 AM »
Dwyane Wade told the Tribune today that Lebron, Johnson, and himself will meet before free agency begins to map out where everyone will be going/staying.  Wade went on to sya that he has to question how loyal the Bulls organization is to it's players citing Jordan and Pippen not being around as an example.

Wade is getting lit up on Chicago sports radio right now.

1) He used the term loyality during his current marriage situation and he hasn't signed an extension with the Heat.

2) John Paxson is the general manager.

3) Bill Wennington and Stacy King do commentary for the Bulls.

4) B.J. Armstrong, Bill Cartwright, Pete Meyers, and others have had positions with the Bulls in recent years.

5) Scottie Pippen was brought back (and paid nicely) for the final two years of his career in which he sucked.  He was given a huge retirement sendoff by the Bulls.

Dwyane is my guy but his comment is way off base.

Chicago is cooling on DWade.

To be honest I'm not even sure the Bulls are that interested in signing Wade.

I think the Bulls wish list goes in this order depending on how things play out:

1. Sign Lebron
2. Sign Amare, Chris Bosh, Boozer
3. If no Lebron, then Wade, Johnson, Ray Allen
4. Trades galore this offseason (Deng shipped)

I just saw that Novak is a free agent hopefully he signs on somewhere.

Maybe Wade will consult Novak as well

Wade got torched by Collin Cowherd today as well.  Saying he's peaked, that it's not worth building a team around him, etc.

Diener, Novak, Wade and Matthews are all free agents this summer.  Maybe they will all go to Golden State and become "Warriors" again.

I think the Bulls are a trainwreck of an organization...I mean, who's calling the shots there?  Foreman, who seems to have the title of GM but not the actual responsibilities?  Paxson, the guy who assaulted his head coach?  And what if they hire a guy like Calipari or Phil Jackson?  Who's in charge then?

They just might end up with Lebron and/or Wade however.

Wade got torched by Collin Cowherd today as well.  Saying he's peaked, that it's not worth building a team around him, etc.

The evidence suggests that very well might be the case.

I do see Miami getting Bosh, and Wade staying down there. I just don't see him leaving, but he may be trying to raise the price for the Heat to keep him.

Cowherd makes statements to get responses, that's his schtick.  Wade was statistcally the 2nd best offensive player in the NBA last year playing on a team with little other help and is still only 28.  Wade is going to get knicked up from time to time with the way he plays, but put him on a team with a little help and I think he would be able to pick and choose his spots a little more and take less of a beating. The guy is 9th all-time in the NBA in points per game for cripes sakes.  Wade is still definitely a guy you can build your team around for the next 5-6 years.

I am guessing the Heat have been offerring him the max contract (including the Bird clause or whatever it is called from day one, so no need to try to leverage the Heat for more money at this point.)

Also how about these examples of loyality? (From Dan Bernstein)

Pippen was sign-and-traded away on a golden parachute, then later re-signed.  His number was retired on a night of ceremony, and hangs in the rafters.

The Jordan statue remains, despite his venality and generalized antipathy.  He could not wait to find other teams to ruin as an occasionally-interested executive.

Ask Randy Brown about loyalty when he was flat broke and needed a job created for him.

Ask Jay Williams about loyalty when he nearly killed himself in a stupid motorcycle crash, and he was paid despite clear violation of his contract and given access to the best medical care beyond the team’s responsibility.

And ask Bill Cartwright about loyalty when the Bulls flew him around the world and helped him pay for the best specialists to repair his damaged larynx.

Some absolute facts:

-Bulls offered Jordan a position in the organization after his first retirement. Jordan wanted an equity stake, Bulls said no, Jordan said no thanks.

-Reinsdorf is to a fault the most loyal owner in sports. When I worked for the Bulls, I had no clue about Tim Hallam's past. Once I got to know him, I could understand why Reinsdorf kept him around, despite his indiscretions. How many other owners would have stuck with him (right or wrong)?

-There are countless stories of people in the front office Reinsdorf has remained loyal too. Go through the Bulls front office directory and check out how long people have been there. Like him or dislike him, he goes above and beyond when it comes to loyalty.

I love DWade as much as anyone, but he is dead wrong on this.

I don't think anyone here in particular is saying anything about Wade not liking the Bulls. He made an ignorant statement and is being called out on, kudos to people like Cowherd/Bernstein for taking him to task for being wrong.

It was a stupid comment and not really true in the slightest. Calling him out for the comment is one thing but saying he isn't a great player or can't carry a team anymore is simply incorrect.

The Bulls have been a mess since Jordan, Pippen, Jackson...etc. left.  Aside from lucking out in the lottery and having Rose fall into their laps, they have made a ton of mistakes (although that was a great 1st round series last year). Noah was a very solid pick but aside from him, their drafting has been very spotty at best.  They've made numerous boneheaded trades and signed guys to bad contracts.  They have a very good young nucleus in Rose and Noah but if I'm a big free agent do I trust that front office right now to put the right complementary guys around me and hire the right coach?  Ehhh, not so much.

For the record, I don't think Cowherd said the Bulls were any great shake, he was just saying he wouldn't build a team around Wade anymore because, in his opinion, he had peaked.

Good. Now Wade won't go to Chicago, thank God. I can barely take these Chicago sports fans around campus as it is, I couldn't imagine how bad it would be if Wade wore a Bulls jersey. Hopefully LeBron will stay away too and the Bulls can continue to suck just like every other Chicago team that doesn't wear skates.

Wouldn't there be a fairly good chance that if Wade were a Bull he would have more involvement with Marquette being only an hour or two to the south?

Anyone who would sign Jesus Shuttlesworth before any of those other 6 guys needs to have their head examined.  Even Boozer who sucks I would take before a soon to be 36 year old shooting guard.

Amar'e is the only one I would CONSIDER taking Jesus Ray Ray over... this is because of the value of them.  Ray won't require a max whereas Amar'e most likely will and is just too inconsistent for me.

*Yawn* More prototypical Chicago sports hatred.  Continue to root with other fairweather Brewers fans (cause they drew SO well before there was a bit of success and a new stadium) while bashing Chicago sports at all turns.  Its a bit tiresome that fans from a city without a NHL team needs to resort to bashing a team they have no association with cause they can't stand to see Chicago succeed at anything.  Or maybe you just are bitter cause the Predators are the Admirals affiliate. Who knows.  And wait, I'll pre-empt your response "Chicago sports fans are obnoxious.  Cubs fans suck.  Packers made the playoffs, Bears suck." Rinse repeat.

/threadjack

In more relevant conversation, Ray Allen may be the steal of FA cause he has shown he still has something left in the tank and is still one of the deadliest shooters in the league.  And he will come relatively cheap.

I never said that.  The Cubs-Brewers back and forth gets old, but I get it to a certain extent.  The Bucks-Bulls, I get it.  Packers-Bears, yeah that makes sense.  But bashing on the Blackhawks?  That makes no sense.  Unless you just hate all Chicago sports by default and look for a reason to knock them.  Every team has bandwagon fans.  But this prevailing attitude that Chicago only cares about the Blackhawks cause they are winning is stupid and uninformed, especially when its coming from a non-NHL city.  Its not like its coming from a Montreal or Toronto.

Haha it's comical that you say that Milwaukee fans are fareweather and then bring up the Blackhawks in the same post. A year and 2 months ago nobody gave a crap about the Blackhawks or hockey from Chicago, either. Then all of a sudden they made a little playoff run and everyone at Marquette was getting their nut to them.

And I wouldhope you can fill up seats in your stadium even when your teams are terrible, what's the population of Chicago and the surrounding area as compared to that of Milwaukee's? I mean come on.

So people from Wisconsin are not allowed to have a team to cheer for?  I happen to be a Wings fan.  I know you are probably thinking that I just like them because they are usually pretty good... but I have liked them since I was a kid.  If the day ever comes where the NHL sets up shop in Milwaukee I will abandon the Hawks and get on the local train.

As for the Hawks hate, it is probably because most of the people I know couldn't name a single Hawks player 2 months ago.  It happens with every fan base when a team gets good... people get interested.  Am I saying that there aren't die hard Hawks fans that watch every game or pay attention all season long?  Of course not!

You just seem to be defending all the new Hawks fans as lifers, when really, they aren't.  Where was the Blackhawk thread last year on this board?  See what I'm saying?

I only retaliated with fair weather after lawwarrior brought it out to describe the Blackhawks.  You're surprised that 18 year old kids suddenly got excited about their hometown team when they were in the playoffs as opposed to fighting with the Kings for the bottom of the Western Conference?  My Dad has had Marquette season tickets since '86.  But when they were awful under Dukiet he was about half as vocal and excited to talk about the team as he has been recently?  Is my dad a fairweather Marquette fan?  And whats that last point supposed to mean?  I'm not going to even respond to suggestions that Chicago teams only draw well because of population.

No, Milwaukee fans can root for whatever they choose.  Hence the reason I was a Hawks fan since I was little growing up in Milwaukee, I just wanted an NHL team to pull for and I liked other Chicago teams.  My annoyance is more with people who for the most part don't have an NHL rooting interest.  You don't see many hockey sweaters or t-shirts around Milwaukee.

Your second point and third points are perfectly valid.  But like you said, every fanbase gets bigger upon success.  I remember the FF run in 2003.  I was a senior in HS and a vocal Marquette supporter my whole time in HS.  But I'll be damned if the number of kids wanting to talk about Wade and Diener didn't triple in late March.  It happens, didn't make me bash their fanship.  Same with my point about my Dad above.  Not every Hawks fan is a lifer.  I would wager the cute girls in Toews and Kane jerseys probably didn't cry when Balfour left or remember the Chelios days.  But that is in no way an indication that the Blackhawks fanbase is fairweather.  Fairweather fans exist everywhere, but Chicago is a huge sports town, and the Blackhawks are no exception, success or not.  Especially now that ownership doesn't make it hard to be a fan.

Diener, Novak, Wade and Matthews are all free agents this summer.  Maybe they will all go to Golden State and become "Warriors" again.

THE WARRIORS!!!

BTW, they're changing their logo....
