I never understood the initials thing. Doesn't the uni number differentiate players enough?

don't really follow recruiting as closely as others here...is this a good get? Top 100 players? Can someone give me a one paragraph or less analysis?
Thanks

Great news!

(I'm too lazy to do a writeup of my own.)

He's a 4 star recruit on scout..http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sH0N92_Siwg&feature=g-all-u&context=G2eaeebfFAAAAAAAAFAA (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sH0N92_Siwg&feature=g-all-u&context=G2eaeebfFAAAAAAAAFAA)
Great athleticism and the couple of times I've seen him play he's shown a pretty sweet stroke out to the 3

4 star pg with length, highly skilled. Turns the ball over some, but is still young. big upside. I am summarizing what I have read other people write about him, have not seen him myself.
Oh, and Diamond Stone's PG.

Very fast and quick. Excellent Athlete. Good hops (the inverse of DJO, a right hander that slams with his left). Can slam in traffic. Nice stroke from 3. Not just a score first PG, he distributes.
Another year to refine the PG skills before coming to MU.
Very pleased with this announcement.

I kind of like the fact that we're getting commitments from kids 2 years out. I remember having to wait till almost the beginning of the season to see who would get the last (sometimes 2) remaining scholarships. Planning ahead is awesome.
-
We had the three amigos, now we have the three Wilsons--just like the Beach Boys solid gold line-up.
-
Roy Schmidt from PrepsBullseye has been tweeting on Wilson and Nunn. Said "A reliable source said they would not wait on either one". Should be intersting to see how Nunn fits in now.
-
I'll take a 6-3 PG who can pass in transition any day of the week. And a highly-recruited in-state grad at that.
Well done, Buzz.
-

So, if I read this correctly, that means that whomever committed first gets the spot? He also said that Buzz wants both, "but doesn't know if that is possible."

I take that to mean Nunn's window closed when Wilson verbaled. Pretty much that the scholarship slot was first-come first-serve. I don't have a problem with that, as I very much like the idea of building a solid base in Milwaukee and with Steve Taylor we already have a foot in at Simeon. First Burton, now Wilson, hopefully next Looney and then Stone.
-
That's how I took it. I think it shows that Buzz must be pretty high on Wilson

I'd be surprised if that was the case. MU was in a very, very nice position with Nunn. Doubt this changes anything.
July 2013 is a long way off. Lots can happen.

If that's what it means, I don't have a problem with it either. We are going to need a point guard even if we assume that Derrick Wilson can start when Junior leaves. Derrick and Duane will only overlap two years.

Alright, alright, alright!!!!

Big time backcourt baby!!
-
From Prepbullseye on twitter:
"Have been told that ideally speaking, Buzz Williams would love to have both Duane Wilson & Kendrick Nunn--but don't know if it's possible."
-
Nice. Figure out a way to get Nunn and my dream class is a reality. I think we could even technically sign them both, correct? You're allowed to oversign by one, but since Otule's scholarship won't be locked in by the time fall rolls around we could really sign three for 2013?
-
Does Duane's dad coach Diamond Stone in AAU?
-
Keep it local all the way... I know Buzz would take Nunn if things open up, but for now he's out of the picture. Nunn has been waiting for bigger and better things, Texas and Kansas recently got into the picture and I can see some other programs getting in there as well. He's been around enough to know if he wants to come here or not. Don't want another York situation, waiting, and waiting, and gone.
Seriously, the program should be able to save some cash these next couple years just by focusing on Looney and Stone.
The ddsam7 thing yesterday might have been the coaches trying to get Nunn to commit to them before the announcement.

Refrain from going to Badger Nation, I think I got more dumb from going there :'(
I don't know what made me want to go there in the first place.
-
Awesome! The new DWilson has a ton of upside! I've only seen highlight videos, but to me he projects to have a Darren Collison/Tyshawn Taylor-esque college career. Can anyone that has seen him live in action chime in?
-
Just need to get Looney and Stone now

A 2015 line up of Mayo, Stone, Steve Taylor, Anderson, Looney, the D Wilsons, TJ Taylor, Jamal Ferguson, Durley plus whatever else is brought in sounds like a national title contender in my book.

Burton?

Ya, I messed that up. I guess its 2014 I'm looking forward to. Stone and the current frosh won't overlap.

Need Phil Nolan now and Nunn

Don't have the room unless something crazy happens. Time to move on to Looney.
-
This is great news!
Everything is coming up Marquette.

Need Phil Nolan now and Nunn
Nolan is horribly overrated. Saw him play Brookfield Central. Central's tallest player is 6'6". I'm not sure Nolan, at 6'10" and about 180 lbs., did not step inside the 3 point line on the offensive end besides a fast break dunk. And he bricked a ton of 3 point shots. He likes to stay outside and be a shooter, but his shot is more broke than Vander's. No thank you to him.
-
Since nobody else has mentioned it, Duane has a cousin named Jamil Wilson who plays college basketball somewhere......

Yeah he was thinking of coming to Marquette but Buzz cooled on him so he went out west.
-
Welcome to Marquette D. Wilson
-
Sounds like an excellent pick-up and the added cache of him being a local kid.
-
I hope there's no added baggage...I remember hearing that his old man charged the court during a game earlier this year.
Great get. Good ball handler (not great, yet)... Can pass with both hands which helps bc of his length...very athletic...crafty with the ball on breaks and secondary breaks. Should be able to compliment DWill? As a freshman and get his feet wet.
-
Welcome to the MU family, Duane! ;D
-
Welcome to Marquette, young man! You've made an excellent choice.
-
Hadn't see this posted on here yet. Video of Duane's announcement that he would be committing to the "University of Marquette!" Surprising that as of yesterday afternoon he hadn't informed Buzz personally of his commitment.

I assume that was Diamond Stone he high-fived after announcing for Marquette. Really glad Duane is coming to MU. I think he will be a good one.
-
His game reminds me a lot of Vander Blue, didn't see Vander play in high school but Wilson's shot looks natural. Either way it will be good for him to play with Vander as a senior.

No, similar in style BUT Wilson's shot looks natural.

Sorry misread. I think Duane looks like a great player. 6'3 point guard with what looks to be a good 3 point shot. If he reduces turnovers he is a perfect fit.
-
I usually don't comment on recruits much, especially when I have not seen them play in person. But, from what I've seen in highlight films and combined with his shooting and three point shooting percentages, I am looking forward to seeing Duane running this team. A point who appears to be able to do it all, and very smoothly at that.
-
Duane Wilson aside from the talent, is a very appropriate name for an MU guard in the tradition of say, Michael Wilson and D Wade?
-

-
I like how you think.
-
I love this kid and his talents. It is far from a concern but I think he might be more a two than one down the road. He has great talents and shooting range. If he can adjust at next level to be a one I think he will be a force for MU.
-
. Can anyone that has seen him live in action chime in?
Saw him in Feb. The best way to describe his game is "smooth" -- almost effortless and he has 12 pts and 10 assists. Definitely has a better shot than Cadougan. Where Cadougan seems to be giving his all, you can tell. Wilson was like a gazelle and never seemed to be breaking a sweat.
-
Agreed. Watched him in the state tourney championship game. Duane plays very smooth. He is a complete player. What was really impressive was his leadership and dominance. He is a winner. A great, great addition to Marquette!

I try really hard to not get too impressed/excited by those recruiting videos because everyone can just cherry pick their best moments. But watching his, there were things in that video that just looked so...smooth...that I really was impressed. Even when you're picking your best moments, you've got to be able to do them in the first place. This kid looked really, really good to me. I've seen a lot of these over the years, and this one just really impressed. I thought he looked much better than a three star 128th ranked player (as he is on Rivals).
-
Another Video showing Deonte Burton and Duane Wilson.
FYI...notice with later 'featured players' the defense by Wilson...by anyone for that matter. Not a whole lot being played...IMO.
