Title: A New Power In College BBall - Chicago State?
Post by: Tugg Speedman on March 31, 2015, 08:24:19 PM
I cannot believe a mid-major with an 8-24 record, 42 - 117 in the last five years, is even in this conversation.

----------------------------

Chicago State (!) on All-American recruit's list

http://www.courier-journal.com/story/recruiting/2015/03/31/caleb-swanigan-updates-recruitment-mcdonalds/70740738/

aleb Swanigan's recruiting list includes a group of major colleges, including Kentucky, Duke, Michigan State and Arizona, that you'd expect from a McDonald's All American.

But the Fort Wayne, Ind., center's recently announced final seven also includes a mid-major surprise: Chicago State.

Swanigan said Tuesday that Chicago State is indeed a viable option in his recruitment because his father has known that team's coach since they were boys. Chicago State was the first school to offer him a scholarship, and Swanigan has taken an unofficial visit there.

"Definitely, I'm looking at them," he said. "I've been to Chicago State before. I like it. I like the coach a lot."

The blueboods are making their pitch, too. Swanigan, who also is considering Purdue and California, has taken official visits to Duke and Arizona. He's unofficially visited the other five and said he's done with his trips. He plans to make a decision this month.

Swanigan said UK is recruiting him "decently hard," and he talked to assistant Slice Rohrssen over the weekend before the Cats defeated Notre Dame.

"They have Skal (Labissiere) and Isaiah (Briscoe), and they just need one more big," Swanigan said. ".. They're doing great right now. They produce pros and guys that can play well. You get to play against great players every day in practice."

UK's roster this year is loaded with former top recruits, but none plays more than 25.8 minutes per game. Swanigan said he would be willing to play at place like UK where playing time is spread around so much.

"They're winning, and if you want to win, that's the most important thing for you," he said. "It really shouldn't matter if you are playing 20 minutes, because you're never in a position to fail at Kentucky."

Cal coach Cuonzo Martin, who is also recruiting McDonald's All Americans Ivan Rabb and Jaylen Brown, has become a late contender for Swanigan. He visited Berkeley late last month.

"It's exciting to see great players go out there and play for a new coach who's very deserving of where he's at and a new program that seems like it wants to be on the come-up."

He said he, Rabb and Brown will make their decisions independently, "but if we all end up going out to Cal, that would be great, and I think that's realistic."

He said the level of interest he receives from every school is about the same, though home-state Purdue is the one that calls him the most.

Calling Chicago State a mid-major is a bit of a stretch.

Chicago State an Under Armour school?  That would 'plain it, hey?

If Dildy could have brought Swanigan to DePaul, they should have hired him instead of Leiteo (Dildy was an assistant at DePaul from 1997 to 2002).

....the title is a bit hyperbolous don't ya think? Swanigan and his family have a personal connection to the coach. If I was a betting man, I would say Chicago State is on there as a courtesy and they will be a "close second" when Swanigan ultimately decides to go elsewhere

Probably got Fruit of the Loom to sponsor them with their Wal-Mart exclusives.

Of course!  That was the plan

When I start a post, I want it opened and read.  The title needs to generate interest.

Posters here use the worst, nondescript that say nothing titles.  I often don't open those threads.

Didn't I call you out on this a long time ago and you denied that you use mis-leading titles?

Cool. Do you generate revenue using this method? Cause you certainly seem no better than those dumb facebook stories

And boy there's a lot of threads to choose to open and read 1,210 of them to be exact. Actually was surprised to see Chicos had you beat in the thread starting department.

I'm not trying to be a d*ck, but why do you care if people read your threads?

I mean, I understand that most people are here for an exchange in though about MU hoops, but I've never heard anybody say that they want to generate interest in their own threads/topics. Why does that even matter?

So people start threads here and do not care of anyone reads them?  They are perfectly happen having a conservation with themself?

They don't realize their are dozens of other threads competing for interest and your title is what draws people in, because it is the only thing someone has to draw them in?

Or let me turn it around, I only read selected threads.  The vast majority I never open.  Is that how everyone else does it?  If so, the title is critical.

On the other hand, if readers read them all (or use the "next thread" link in the lower right) than the title is not critical.

+1.  "Generating clicks" on a free forum where it means absolutely nothing.  That's the first I've heard of that.

Study up on your grammar rather than figuring out how to get misleadingly creative with thread titles.

Honestly, I don't start many topics. I comment on things that other people post. I try to add something of value that's worth reading, and not just the same cliches over and over. Sometimes I miss, sometimes I hit.

I guess I'm never that concerned if people read what I wrote. This isn't my personal blog. It isn't a newsletter. It's a community. We exchange some thoughts and ideas. Some people I agree with often, some people I disagree with often. I try to read both sides so I don't end up just inhaling my own exhaust.

If he doesn't act in that manner now, why do you expect him to start now? And, seeing as how history tends to repeat itself, why are you getting all worked up over this incident of him using misleading titles?

Not only that, but generating clicks for a user rather than for the site. If this site is just going to be click-bait, I'd think we could at least get some softcore porn images on the banners. Now that'll grow interest...and that's not the only thing growing! ;D

Economics is the study of scarce resources.  At the University of Chicago they have expanded the field from the study of scarce monetary resource to study human behavior.  These is the basis of, Freakonomics, a book which was published by University of Chicago economist Steven Levitt and New York Times journalist Stephen J. Dubner.

Based on Leavitt's approach whatever someone seeks out is what is lacking (i.e. scarce) in that person's life.  By this analysis, Heisenberg attempting to maximize clicks on treads he has started and measuring how much attention his threads are generating indicates that Heisenberg lacks positive attention in his life and needs to generate some in a measurable way to reassure himself.  That's the only meaning that I can find in his behavior to justify the effort he's extending on getting more clicks on his threads.

Good analysis here. Definitely attention grabbing behavior.
