Jamil got roasted on defense several times.

He's struggling to guard the dribble drive now that he slid over to the 3. I have to imagine he'll be alright, he's too long and athletic not to improve there.

I have said a million times I do not think LW is problem with Buzz. The problem is higher up with Fr.P. if any issue between LW and Buzz it would be based off Fr.P thoughts passed on by LW. No offense taken and wanted to make sure I am jabbed for what I said and not jabbed for wrong reason. I actually have said more positive about LW than negative.

Didn't see the game, but from Homer's radio account, it sounded like Jamil was constantly stepping up. Of course, he doesn't usually mention who gets beat on defense, but Jamil gets my vote.

Did we really assist on 28 of 31 made field goals?  That's amazing.

Jamil

It is an amazing stat, but I think that highlights what is wrong with this team compared to last years. Ferguson had one steal for a dunk. Last year we were getting a lot more steals for scores. This team does not appear to be able to play that kind of defense. Also, you do not get assists on offensive rebound put backs. So I do not see 28 assists on 31 baskets as a totally positive thing. It also shows that we do not have players that (can(?)) create their own shots.

Gardner had 5 steals to go with his points.  But I vote Jamil.

Had to go with Jamil for leading scoring AND rebounding, but some touch choices this game.  Seemed everyone was very efficient with their minutes (though I suppose that can happen with UMBC).

Marquette had 24 fast break points.

Marquette scored 44 points in the paint.

Nearly half of Marquette's made FGs were layups or dunks (15 of 31).

MU was getting to the basket and playing unselfishly.

Blue, Jamil, Lockett and Gardner are all capable of creating their own shot.

This year's team doesn't need to rely on 2 players to score a bulk of their points. It's a much more balanced team. Being more balanced doesn't necessarily mean better or worse but it's different than the MU teams we've seen the last few seasons.

Last season, MU was 11th in the nation in this statistic. Nice problem to have with this balanced attack via our distributor PG. MU is a tough match up team as they can beat you in different ways.  Two tough defenses upcoming to test this. With Mayo out, the zone is still a concern, but we are so much taller and deeper inside...and those guys need the helping hand.
