When was he AD at Georgia?

Why shouldn’t a guy who’s a miserable failure at coaching get promoted to AD? He likes us, and one of his players is now an NBA star!

Not sure if he's the right guy, but Drake AD Brian Hardin should be in the mix as well. He was a deputy under Scholl.

Why? So we can cut sports and be mediocre at hoops?

Scholl no longer as sharp as he once was. Broeker is next man up.

Hank Gathers and Bo Kimble haven’t walked that campus for almost 40 years. Mediocre is very good for LMU.

I don’t really care about prior ties to MU. Just get someone who can hire good coaches. Was the Stan Johnson hire at LMU a great hire?

and yet not good enough for MU. How did the last MU AD choice from a WCC school work out?

Hardin, however, has an actual track record of success as an AD at Drake (especially in hoops), has gotten facilities built and improved, and has made some excellent hires.

Thanks for bringing up that memory and ruining my day.  >:(

I still remember a colleague who was a Board member of Portland U telling me "good luck with Williams"; they were not upset to see him leave.

Well we went from starting down the barrel of playing the likes of Tulane and ECU twice a season to playing in the best basketball only and top 3 basketball conference in the country.  So pretty well.

Larry gave himself a LOT more credit for that than he deserved.

There is a reason Larry only lasted one year at MU and that one year was far and away the high point of his non-football career.

From what I heard from his time at Portland, he was an uninspiring A-hole. Maybe smart as hell, but not leadership material. His resume proves the people at Portland were not wrong.

I've never heard Larry give himself credit.  I've heard many others (including people from outside MU) credit him as one of the two main driving forces behind the Catholic 7.

I was going off his own LinkedIn page, which has 1 year at MU. Whatever it was, it was too long.

(This isn’t a comment about Pintens candidacy at MU)

https://marquettewire.org/4091937/sports/marquette-tennis-and-track-field-teams-moving-to-non-scholarship-programs-in-2025-26/

After the cuts, LMU will sponsor 14 sports. After the cuts, MU will sponsor 10 sports.

As for LMU, in the past 5 years they have won 10 WCC titles. Over half a dozen of their teams have made the NCAA Tourney at least once in that time.

MU needs to be comparing its budgets to the Big East schools. LMU needs to be comparing its budgets to WCC schools.

I have no problem with Broeker, as long as he ignores the advice of those supporters who wanted to keep Wojo, thought Wojo's staff was the best since Al's, or floated Stan Johnson as a candidate for HC.

From the outside perspective it deserves to be Broeker.

He and Shaka seem to have a good relationship, based on the effusive and unprompted praise they have heaped on each other over the last few years.
If that relationship is your top priority for an AD then it fits.
Obviously, things behind closed doors can be different than appearances, but I think they have mutual respect.
Plus, this seems to be a good time for continuity. Why hit the AD "portal" when you can take care of your own?

Broeker to AD and Kuykendall to Deputy.

This may be from a few years ago, but wasn't Broeker a finalist for St. John's AD (before it went to Cragg)?

I wonder how long the athletic department has known about his retirement plans. I wonder if Shaka knew when he turned down interviews with Kentucky, Louisville, and Michigan. If so, that’s a great sign. Also, it might mean it’s Broeker’s job to lose
