Interesting to consider - Wojo follows on the heels of two of the more successful coaches in MU history. Program in solid conference, huge budget, great facilities.
While I'm hopeful he can exceed Crean - I don't feel he will.
-
I worked with a guy many years ago who tried to convince me that Robert Brooks was as good a wide receiver as Jerry Rice. Holy cow do you ever remind me of him!
-
All three came into different situations, different roster capabilities, inheriting different levels of quality, different facilities, different conferences. Comparisons are a big stretch because so many variables have changed.
The other consideration is how do you get to the win totals? Mike Deane had more wins in 5 years than K.O. did, but KO was more successful in most people's eyes.
If Wojo can start to finish in the top 5 of the conference and hit 20 wins that's step one....and success. Then go up from there, top 3 in the conference routinely, so on and so forth.
We'll know in years 4 and 5 how it is working out.

Wojo will be gone to Duke in four. His coaching is shining through.

It embodies everything I'm about. My life's mission.

A bit like asking who's going to win the 100-meter dash among three guys with different starting lines.
-
Wojo's mentor, that guy that just won his 1,000th game coaching college basketball, was 85-65 after 5 years at Duke.

Who was he before?

Far different personalities, but Wojo has a lot of O'Neill in him. A ton. But he's a lot more stable, which is what a program needs.
Buzz had some McGuire in him.
I believe, if he stays long enough, Wojo can establish his own legend at Marquette. He's really, really good. Put it this way, if you're a HS kid and Wojo, Bo, Buzz and Crean are in your living room, all things being equal, where are you going?
-
I think he will have a hard time performing better than Mike Deane who went 100-55 in five years.

If Mike Deane's w/l record was relevant he would have never been fired.

I was just responding to the poll. There is no implicit or explicit endorsement of Deane.

He was left better players (relatively speaking) when he started and didn't compete in the number two conference in America.

Buzz has a lot of Al.
Crean has a lot of George Hamilton.

I'm going Buzz.

Crap! Cleaning the coffee from my keyboard....

I'm going Buzz.
I think the Mom's go Buzz. He's going to talk and talk about God and education. Dad's will go Bo or Wojo. Kids will go Buzz, TC or Wojo - just depends what you're into and what type of a kid you are at 17. Say what you want about TC (and I have) but occasionally he can recruit.

Surprised he came here when dukes available in a few years

Who has historically brought in the best players, put the most in the NBA or professionally, had guys graduate for those that don't make it in hoops. That's your answer.

I'm going to be a broken record on this one...If you're really looking for an honest opinion (and not just pushing an agenda), make it a real poll. How will Wojo compare to the others in years 2-4 or 2-5? That gets closer to an honest evaluation regarding people's opinion of Wojo. We can disagree about the level of talent on the team this year, but a poll starting in year two takes that disagreement off the table. A poll starting next year gives Wojo a chance to get his guys involved.
Over time frames beginning next year, I believe Wojo will have more wins than both Buzz and Crean.
