This and that: Awards, rankings, brackets
Let's start things off with a quote from UConn coach Jim Calhoun:
"... with effort, with unabided team effort, enthusiasm, you can accomplish a great deal. I keep pointing to Marquette, who continues to prove that game after game after game. Yes, they have some pretty good players, but they're not the fifth best team in this league. But they finished fifth because they play hard every minute."
Buzz Williams has done a nice job getting Marquette to the fifth seed of the Big East tournament, but FoxSports.com's Jeff Goodman gives the conference coach of the year nod to Syracuse's Jim Boeheim.

A year or two ago espn insider had a historical look at seeding, 9 seeds won a ton when they were teams who had made the tournament the year before. They suspected it was because those teams were historically good well coached teams from a tough conference. History doesn't really matter but it's enough to get me excited.
and no lenny i'm not being optimistic to set buzz up to fail.

Yeah, it was 8 seeds though; 9 seeds are 3-43 vs. the 1 and 8 seeds are 9-29. Of those 9 wins 8 of them came from experienced teams that made it to the tourney the year before....

Nice quote by Calhoun.

From Basketball Prospectus from last year, 7-10 seeds that perform well have success with these things:
1. Assist to Turnover Ration
2. Strength of Schedule
3. Victory Margin
4. Guard Points
5. 3 Pointers Attempted
