Kolek planning to go pro
I missed that...
Dwyane Wade's grades are what we have to thank for Dwyane Wade, which is what we have to thank for the Final Four, the Al, the Big East, and the Jordan Brand contract. So, evidently, Dwyane's high school teachers are more to thank for where Marquette University and their basketball program are than Tom Crean is.
It was done in phases as key six figure donors didn't follow through as pledged, but it was a multi million dollar investment none-the-less.First was the Klein Family Pavillion:http://www.marquette.edu/magazine/recent.php?subaction=showfull&id=1306850400And then all new permanent stands--grandstand facilities including a press box, bathrooms, concessions; a completely new pitch, scoreboard and bench areas.http://marquettewire.org/3840545/tribune/tribune-sports/valley-fields/Perhaps you guys can bring CTC and his wallet to finish it off.
TAMUI do know, Newsie is right on you knowing ball.
I thought he pledged to help an indoor stadium for soccer and track and field? A project which never took off.
Right. Tom Crean had nothing to do with Marquette's success. I guess I will crap on him since we should be thanking Wade's teachers and not Crean.
Nope. The Crean's were to donate to the outdoor stadium, which by now has had every blade of grass, every steel beam, every nut and bolt, every electronic wire, and every toilet seat replaced/added.http://www.gomarquette.com/sports/m-soccer/spec-rel/062807aaa.htmlhttp://cdn.wrn.com/resource_news/20070629/1eab575d-c09f-1e1c-6b35859e06cb3a86/105237/CREAN1.MP3
So Crean initially pledges a donation to what can only be described as a far different, $5 million stadium project. http://www.gomarquette.com/sports/m-soccer/spec-rel/062807aaa.html"The new stadium, to be constructed on the program's current home Valley Fields, will feature a top-quality natural-grass pitch, partially covered spectator seating, team locker and meeting rooms, concessions and restrooms. The cost of the new stadium, which will be funded through private gifts, will total approximately $5 million."I think its fair to say THAT project was never built. Instead, years later, MU builds a far-downsized $1.2 million rebuild of the bleachers, for which it already had $1 million commitment from the Kleins. Its by no means clear that MU even needed Crean's money for this project.http://www.marquette.edu/magazine/recent.php?subaction=showfull&id=1306850400"Marquette recently dedicated the new Klein Family/KBS Soccer Pavilion, a $1.2 million facility that Men's Head Coach Louis Bennett describes as "a fantastic boost" for the men's and women's programs."For all the criticism of Crean, even including his donation we were still $3.7 million short of getting the project funded.
No...and after reading many many psosts from people on this board that do...I have to say I'm MUCH better off, if this is the type of "intelligence" a degree from MU gets you. It sure is on full display I will say that.
