I hope none of the players get infected with COVID, causing them to miss a week or more.    I hope everyone plays to the best of their abilities in order to give glory to God.

LFG!!!!!!!!!!!!

How's everybody feeling this morning?

How are you feeling?

I’m feeling like MU better break its road game pattern of falling behind by double digits and trying to come back because that hasn’t been working.

I’ll probably stay off the game thread to keep from offending anyone if I get frustrated.

I truly don’t know if we will ever have a good game from 3 in conference

It’s just constant bricks over and over. Not even close.

We are once again getting any shot we want. But can’t make a 3 and have missed like 3 bunnies too.

should be up healthy as the announcers noted

Can’t fault the effort yet, team is engaged and active. The shooting is just beyond words at this point

0-9 on threes.   This game…. Regression to the mean will rule.   We will hardly miss another three

0-9 from 3. Obvious that Gold will never make a 3, but not from a lack of trying. This may be the worst 3 point shooting team at MU in eons.

I know I’m not a basketball expert, so I’ve been keeping an open mind due to so many people legitimately smarter than me saying Gold is going to be a special player.  I just don’t see anything that aligns with what I’ve been told.

Doubt it.  He is now 0 for last 12 from three and hasn’t made one in five games.

Team 0 for 9.  Keep firing……Keep shooting. Just unreal.

And another foul on a three.  Have to lead country in this.  Weird

Beside Kolek giving Ledlum two made open threes and a back door layup, totaling 8 points, defense outstanding.  Keeping them in game.

this team literally cannot shoot. this isn't something that is going to be fixed. bad personnel by shaka for his style of play. you would think we could have a few hot games, lets hope they are in march

gotta say I have no idea what shaka is thinking if his style is to shoot so many 3's. he has to know he has a team that cannot shoot, right? i can't remember such an inept team bricking open shot after open shot

Really surprised to see Gold struggling so much from 3 this year.  His shot got a little flat for some reason.  Zaide's shot form and arc look great and I expect nice results there.  Kam will get hot, and that alone will make us look like a much better team.

Yeah as Ive said many times, we lost Omax from last year. He was 33% and below the team average

Somehow every single returning player has gotten worse at shooting. Except technically Ben but he was such low volume last year and currently cant hit water if he fell out of a boat.

It used to be “it’s ok. We regress to the mean, we win this running away” but now our average is like 2/27 on threes, so that logic doesn’t work.

Let this be a lesson: I never want to start a season top 10 again. The fall hurts worse than the actual losing!

(All this said, the team is out there competing. Can’t fault the effort!)

I don’t recall a season where there has been such a remarkable change in a team from one part of the season to another.  I think the thoughts of MU being a better team are clouded by having the knowledge of how this team can play.  It really isn’t that team any more. I hope at some point the team that started the season returns but no, at this point, MU is not a better team

This team can’t even pray to be competitive on a road game. Absolutely bizzare and pathetic. Idk what to sa. What is going on

At some point blame mostly rests on the man in charge.

Biggest issue I see is physicality...Big East officiating this year seems to be allowing more physicality and that kills our squad.

It all goes back to shooting - make some shots and teams can’t pack it in and be physical.

The lesson has to be if you are going to have a offensive philosphy that every player has a green light to shoot from 3

You have to recruit just ONE guy that can actually shoot the 3.

Incredible to have this philosphy and strategy and not have 1 guy who can shoot when ideally you should have 3-4.

Law of average is always a thing

At this point might as well hope the trash shooting continues for the rest of BE while still pulling out 7-8 more wins on 30% 3 shooting so we can make the dance

Then just black out and shoot 45% for 6 straight games when it matters as a 10 seed.

SJ has 10 turnovers, but 19 to 10 in rebounds, along with zero MU threes give them lead.

MU needs more from the bench, zero nothings from all. Norman had two fouls in thirty seconds and Gold is just a disaster on all ends of floor.  Play that Lowery kid more.

Long way to go, maybe make some threes……Come on Gold, have to help out here with bench play.

I don't think we can fault Shaka AT ALL.  Why would he think his 7th rated offense last year, that returned everybody but O-Max (an avearage offensive player), would see every guy get worse at shooting 3 pointers?  Clearly guys are pressing and some confidence shaken - Shaka's job is to try to instill confidence and not strip it away.  Which, if he all of a sudden shifts gears and tells guys to limit 3 point attempts - think that erodes player confidence even further.  End of the day it is all mental at this point with regard to our shooting.

Only issue? No

But if the team could just be competent shooting the 3(while also hopefully not bricking lay ups like most road games) wed be nearly impossible to beat.

Even with poor rebounding.

But we are 17.5 games in, we clearly cant shoot. The data is no longer small, therefor we will not be any real threat.

If there is ever poor reffing on us, its defensively

MU agressive on defense, gets turnovers but also fouls.

MU today fouling on offensive put backs and of course threes.

Not a ref issue, just a daily game excuse.  MU getting in some foul trouble now, with no bench. Let’s go….

Just got to stay smart on offense and obviously make the open 3s when they come

But SJU does not have a punchers chance in stopping the TK/OSO two man game. Oso is too athletic for them and if over play him then TK has gotten to the rim a lot(missed em in first half tho)

I do think we will play a better second half....and I do feel we will end up winning this game, as I just don't believe we will continue to be ice cold from 3.

I also feel Zaide needs to be playing pretty much max minutes on this current squad.

Good calls! Big plays by Zaide. I certainly didn’t expect a 180 turnaround like this.  But happy to see it.

Up 13 with six to go.

MU getting blasted on boards now and stupid couple of turnovers. Kolek and Jones very bad ones. I mean bad.  And Joplin steps out of bounds.

to be fair. Kam came in as they were at the line to make it 8. We quickly got it to 13.

Up 11 after SJU first made basket in a while

He forced a off balance back board shot. SJU got a run out and was fouled due to it. 2 freebies at the line cut it to 9. THen 3 TOs by us since then

Obviously TK has been great. But that was the momentum move not when Kam came in for Zaide.

I have to think the lack of depth really hurt MU today. That last 7 minutes after the 13 point lead was as ugly as it gets. Not much but turnovers, leaky defense, and missed FTs.

Fatigue might have been a factor.

The season the letter was written comes to mind

My wife has been a very good MU for the 39 years we have been together but is struggling this season. She thinks “if they are that good, why do they miss every shot?” or “why can’t they go on 15-0 runs all of the time if they are that good?”.

She falls into the camp that thought MU would roll every game this season. That camp is bigger than I thought and sorry they are disappointed.
