Saw Paint Touches retweet this saying our new jerseys leaked. I’m not really a fan. They kind of look like department store knock offs.
https://twitter.com/ejb1333/status/1314926053870231553?s=21
edit: New Jersey called, they want their apostrophe back.
-
I think they look pretty good. Wasn’t a huge fan of last year’s.
-
No Al patch, no Beast patch, no American Flag patch, no BLM patch. Not sold that this is legit, no offense PTs.
-
Like the simple solid color on most of the jersey, and love the shoulder stripes.
Not a fan of the lettering or the numbers.

Interested to see how the other colors look, but these look more like a women team’s jersey to me. Liked the old ones better, especially the navy and the championship blues.

That was my initial thought. They seemed consistent with what the women’s jerseys have looked like the last few years.
-
Spot on. Definitely getting women's jersey vibes and I hope that it is the case.
-
Women's jersey for sure. Haven't they been using that cursive lettering or am I crazy?
-
Have they ever sold men’s styles/sizes of women’s jerseys before? I can’t recall them doing that.
-
Paint Touches confirming that it’s the new Men’s jerseys. Hope it’s only a one year thing.
-
Yuck.
-
I don't hate it, but I am confident we could find 20 designers on twitter who could come up with something better than this in a matter of hours.
-
Ugh. Dull. Boring. I have not been overly impressed with our jerseys for several years now.
-
It’s a big meh for me. No side piping/designs is a huge negative. The shoulders are an interesting twist. I’m curious if the player names will go above or below the numbers on the back.
I do think this branding is more consistent with our court and logo design. It’s nitpicking on my part, but I was always bothered by the recent jerseys having nothing to do with our word marks, logo or branding. In fact, the men’s basketball jerseys were completely independent from all other MU program jerseys. This is closer to our present branding, but still very much isolated, if you will.
Regardless, if you win with a uniform set, they become memorable. If not, they’ll like be discarded and forgotten over time that I feel the recent set will be.

Definitely. Really not liking the font.
I thought Steve and Barry’s went bankrupt...
-
The shorts can make a big difference in my overall opinion on them, and seeing them actually on the players can also change my opinion on them. We’ll see.

This, but I'm meh so far. Very bland, and so much so that I'd rather the hodge podge of themes of the last kits
-
I think they’re ok. I’d probably really like them if they had some piping on the sides. But as they are now, they’re a little plain for my taste.
-
Marquette used to exude edgy and cool. Coolest coach, coolest nickname, coolest unis. Now we exude “meh”.
-

Yep.
We shouldn't change just for the sake of changing. We should only do it to make them better. And this isn't better. I'd rather they just stick with last year's...or the ones from a few seasons earlier, like the Amigos era.
-
I like the shoulders, don't like the font. Waiting for the shorts to finalize opinion
-
Plus the youngsters can't read cursive.
That'll hurt recruiting.
-
Looking at these again, I think it's weird that the serif on the number font matches the MU logo, but the Marquette font on the script is now different.

Literally lol’d at that one.😂

It just seems odd that they would be available to buy on Fanatics before an official release was made.

Fanatics (and MU Spirit Shop in the past) has typically released new college bball gear starting around Mid October. Not that surprising.
-
Kinda fitz in well wit 2020, aina?
-

Yeah...but it’s 2020. Seems like everything happens differently than we are accustomed to.
-
The shorts are pretty awesome and they definitely look better on the players. The yellows are a big upgrade over last year’s yellows. The font is the only issue I have with them, although it looks like there’s a secondary color trim around the armpits that matches up with the main shoulder color. I wish that trim was just the same as the main jersey color.

Okay, I had reservations but they’re pretty legit
-
The shorts really bring them together nicely. I am still a fan of the underarm piping and feel that could've been instituted, even if in a different way than the past (crescent piping to match the curvature of the lines?) but they look pretty slick.

Agreed. As a whole, I think it looks really nice.
-
Better with the shorts, but I'm still not a fan of the script. Guess I'll get used to it.
And I definitely preferred the 'AL' on the collar instead of the waistband. If it ain't broke....
-
FIFY ::)
The color of those uniforms is certainly not gold, and is definitely yellow.
-

Yeah - I know MU officially calls it 'gold,' but I see yellow. When I think of gold, I imagine something more like Purdue or Vanderbilt.
But blue and gold sounds WAY better than blue and yellow. :)
-
The back of them look a ton better than what’s on the fanatics website.
-
they remind me a ton of the Long Beach St. unis that said "The Beach" across the front
-
We put “AL” on the belt buckle. Really thought we were saving that real estate for Jimmy & Jae.
-

Are you saying that the unis are not in the school colors?
-
Big fan of the new unis!
-
Are you saying that the unis are not in the school colors?
I don't really care what colors are school says it is. I do know that the uniforms the team was wearing at media day today were yellow.
-
Shorts: killer. Al on the shirts: like it. font and numbers: brutal.
And well past time for the flag to go. ::)
-

Then they’ve always been yellow. And the Packers? No longer green and gold.
-
It is what it is (yellow/gold who gives a F’k).

Yeah they’re yellow. It’s like the definition of yellow, it’s not even an off shade or darker yellow.

We still don’t.

Lol my point exactly. Straight from the mouth of Happy Gilmore, “gold, yellow, who gives a sh**”
-

Still don't like the font, but the shorts are fantastic. Overall, a very solid look.
-
I hear we're changing our nickname to The Yellow.
As for the unis, they're fine. I've seen better, I've seen worse. We'll get used to them ... and then have new unis to grade for the 2021-22 season.
-
Then they’ve always been yellow. And the Packers? No longer green and gold.
The last (only?) time I remember really wearing blue and gold was 1977 (and maybe 78). Our white untucked tops had gold numbers and gold “MARQUETTE” outlined in baby blue. Our shorts were gold with thick white stripes outlined by thin baby blue stripes. Any pics of the national championship game should show them off nicely - they were sweet. Last 40 years (and probably 40 years before that) we’ve been blue and yellow.
-
My first head-coaching job, our colors were black and gold.
"Coach ... really ... that's yellow," one of the kids said.
My response: "No team wants to be called 'yellow.' That's another word for 'chicken.' We aren't chickens, are we?"
"No sir ... but that color is still yellow. It's really not even close to gold."
She wasn't wrong.
-
I think they're great. Love the asymmetry.
-
The shorts might be a Tribute to the shorts we had during the O'Neil era. Weren't they whitish with diagonal navy blue?
The jersey itself still doesn't do it for me.
-
Not a fan. They look like a free give away to kids at a Marquette summer camp.
-
Not really a fan. Least favorite since the Crean days.
-
The shorts definitely make it better, but I’m not really a fan of the font or jerseys. Then again, I’m certainly not as hip as I used to be.
To me it’s gold in the same sense the Packers have gold. Everyone in the world knows it’s yellow, but gold just sounds cooler.
-
I like the gold unis. Love the shorts. Need to see the other colors.
-
i think these grow on us more than the previous ones did.
-
i think these grow on us more than the previous ones did.
There is a point here. Outside of the light blues when they added the horizontal strips, the old jerseys never really grew on me. I guess we'll see about these
-
Crean sucks
-
i think these grow on us more than the previous ones did.
At my age, when something grows on me it means a trip to the dermatologist for removal.
-
When I think of gold, I imagine something more like Purdue or Vanderbilt.
I have heard that called “Vegas Gold.”
-
some call that darker shade of gold old gold. Or metallic gold. 49ers, Saints...
MU's colors are Navy Blue and Athletic Gold. Those are the colors of the interlocked MU logo.
The sports teams also use variations of both the blue and the gold. The gold variation of the current basketball jerseys is officially called Yellow C in the Pantone codes.
-
At my age, when something grows on me it means a trip to the dermatologist for removal.
I tried that a year or so ago, but the dermatologist told me it was just the kind of benign growth people get when they become more 'mature.'
I told her she was a pretty poor judge of my character if she thought I was mature...and that I was fine if she acknowledged I was getting old.
-
Not a fan. They look like a free give away to kids at a Marquette summer camp.
In 1997
-
I guess its better then whatever butchered awful undershirt they have been wearing for the past three years. Go back to the 2012 unis and call it a day.
-
The American flag placement perfectly sums up MU.
The flag was added after the 9/11 attacks and worn for the 01-02 and 02-03 season (which included the invasion of Iraq in March of 2003). Then it was added back on for the 100th anniversary kits as a nod to those two Wade led NCAA teams. Now that we move on to the next era of MU jerseys what do we do? We keep the flag. There is zero reason to have a US flag on our jersey (we play an all American schedule) all it does is clutter the jersey. I don't get how this gets missed?
At least they moved AL down to the belt (I would be fine losing that too). Just have the Jumpman and be done with it.
-

Al won a National Championship for MU. Nike/Jumpman just makes our uniforms.
I'd rather keep the part that makes us unique....

There's people that'd have an aneurism if we got rid of the American flag on there. Even though it's been taken off before, those people aren't known for their logic.

We have a building named after Al.
We have a court named after Al.
We have a night named after Al.
We do not in anyway need his name on our jerseys. If Al was alive he'd be asking for some $$$ for the use of his name and likeness.

I agree. He’s been gone longer than most of the current players have been alive for.
We’re not moving on as there are many other tributes as you’ve mentioned, but it looks particularly cluttered on this uniform iteration.

It has nothing to do with 'need'. And frankly, I'd rather keep it on the uniforms and get rid of 'Al's Night.'
And the AL on the uniform is the only one that every fan watching a Marquette game sees every time we play, home and away....

Yeah, I'll take Marquette's new uniforms over those. Looks like they're some kind of throwbacks. I do remember them wearing something similar within the past couple of years on rare occasion.
https://www.vuhoops.com/2019/12/20/21032057/wildcats-to-rock-throwbacks-against-jayhawks
The throwbacks they have worn with the wildcat crawling through the V on the shorts were awesome, as are Xavier's throwbacks.

In the recent past few years Villanova has worn white uniforms outlined in yellow and navy a few times. They were considered throw back to prior Villanova uniforms of yesteryear.

I recall the white with navy, but I don’t recall seeing yellow. If it was there, it was considerably more subtle than it is in these uniforms.
And if they were considered “retro“ uniforms, does that mean they will only wear each of these once? Or is retro becoming their current color scheme?
-
I actually think the back of the uniforms look really nice with the name and number on them. Overall I’m a fan of the yellow, which is usually my least favorite uniform of ours. So I’m looking forward to seeing the other colors.

Don’t forget when we had his image on the back of the jersey too. And there’s Al’s Run. Does any other school go as overboard for a former coach?
We might as well change the mascot to Al.

I believe it is 8 nowadays. Also, it is popping up all over the place; college football, NBA (Hornets), PSG (3rd kit), National Basketball Teams, and NASCAR (Hamlin and likely more now that Jordan is an owner)
If I am not mistaken the reason we switched to Nike and eventually Jumpman branding was Wade's switch from Converse, who made our uniforms for awhile, to Nike and the Jumpman team.
-
San Diego St. Basketball also wears the Jordan Brand.

Those old converse jerseys were awful material assuming the ones sold were the same. Still have the shorts and Lazar jersey and they're like wearing sweats compared to what Jordan has us in.

Mostly true. Wade switched from Converse to Jordan in 2009, and MU had a clause in the Converse contract allowing the university to follow Wade. However, MU (and Wade) were under the Nike umbrella all along. Nike has owned the Converse brand since 2003, and the Jordan brand since its inception.

Andrei did an interview with Prusetti about the new jerseys. It has some good insight on the design process including some of the thought process behind the font. Also mentions that there are discussions about throwback jerseys in the future but honestly it didn't sound that optimistic
