Does anyone know if tonight's game will be broadcast in HD? I'm going to enjoy not having to watch a game on ESPNFullcourt bluryvision...
-
ESPN2 is in HD but the BS version of HD where the picture is cropped.
-
no HD tonight.
mr. hayward - when it is letterboxed (has the cropped pictures) it is not in HD. that is a SD feed on the HD channel.
-
Well then I dont know the answer, but I know I am frustrated when it says ESPN 2 HD and it is the samll box and if you try to exapand it it like you say clearly aint HD
-
If you have TimeWarner, look at your box; easy way to tell if it is "true" HD.
ESPN2 is usually only in 720p and the box has little sections that light up when something is in 1080i, 720p, etc.

What's this no HD bullcrap?

The ESPN trucks are contracted and sometimes the cost of getting a HD truck to middle-of-nowhere-ville is just too great compared to a closer SD truck. Scheduling conflicts also occur.

yeah, must be tough to find an HD truck in Philadelphia.
-
Heres another question? Why must we pay a monthly fee for HD "access". Just does not seem right.

Seems like ESPN needs to replace a lot of those SD trucks with HD ones. The B10 network has nearly everything is HD, is this because the network is so new that they just bought all HD stuff right away and didn't have to phase out the SD equipment like ESPN is currently doing?

Just what I was thinking.

Man, half full guys. I am happy I can watch it on TV and not a choppy computer.

I'm a HD snob.

ESPN doesn't buy trucks and neither does Big Ten Network. They all contract with the same pool of truck vendors. The only exception to that that I know of is NBA on TNT ... Turner owns their own trucks as I recall.

I could go on, but the list is quite long ... ESPN doesn't use all of these various vendors, most networks actually use NEP and NCP. FSN and other smaller networks use more of the Trio, Lyon, etc. trucks.
It is all a matter of price, scheduling, and truck location/routes.

I, too am an HD snob. It annoys me that ESPN has horrible week night football games in HD but has so few college hoops games.
For all of the ripping of the BTN it has every game in HD. If you cover your ears it is a really nice broadcast. :P
Has MU had any games broadcast in HD? I literally cannot watch games on channel 41. It is like watching TV in 1970.
-
'Nova on New Years Day was in HD and that turned out pretty well. (Sadly this debate is useless while I am in Europe and tip is at 3am)
Can we get some ESPN360HD.com love? Pretty please ;D

Thanks for clarifying. Is it just a matter of price then for ESPN?

It's enlightening to read a post from someone who actually knows what they are talking about. ;D

Less on price, more on scheduling, but price is somewhat impacted on where the truck has to go. No sense in having a truck in location X for a Sat game, sending it out to Y for Tues then back to X for Fri (unless X and Y are really close). Just find a cheaper truck that's closer.
I do agree, however, that a prime-time Tuesday game on ESPN[2] should be in HD. Part of it I believe is the sheer number of college games that occur on a daily basis.

I know I am dating myself, but back in the 60's we longed for the games to be in color. Now it's HD. However watching a game in black & white back then was not as bad as watching a standard definition game today that is so badly compressed you can hardly make out the numbers on the players jerseys. There are days I think I need new bifocals.
