A Marquette Fan's Night Before Christmas
« on: December 28, 2007, 09:59:16 AM »
Even got a mention in the Power Rankings!
http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2007/writers/luke_winn/12/27/power.rankings/2.html

Quote
`Twas the night before Christmas and all through the house,
Not a keyboard was stirring, not even a mouse.

The game scores were posted on the web page with care,
In hopes that more victories soon would be there.

The Blue and Gold faithful were all snug in their beds,
While visions of 1977 danced in their heads.

And mamma in her kerchief and I in my cap,
We had just settled down for a long pre-game nap.

When out on 4th Avenue there arose such a clatter,
I sprang from the bed to see what was the matter.

And what to my wondering eyes should appear,
But the Marquette Golden Eagles a wandering near.
And their cagey head coach, so lively and free,
I knew in an instant it must be TC.

More Rapid than Eagles and Warriors they came,
He whistled and shouted and called them by name.

"Now Dominic, now Dwight, now Jerel and Coobi.,
On Ousmane, on Lazar on Trend and Wesley.

Into the Bradley, let's practice some ball,
Now dash away, dash away, dash away all."

Onto Al's court the players all flew,
And behind them came Tom ,and his three assistants, too.

Around him they gathered to hear of his plan,
For an April trip to San Antonio is what TC had planned.

He shouted and whistled, cheeks rosy and red,
Through each of the drills to his players he pled:

"More ball screens, more free-throws, more rebounds, more treys
You can't win it all if you don't run the plays.

Come on, you're loafing, come on move your feet
There're Huskies and Irish and Blue Demons to beat."

In the doorway I perched all quiet and shy,
And knew if we won that this would be why.

Wes Matthews then leaped and soared high off of the ground,
And thundered to earth with one more impressive rebound.

He fired it out to a waiting D James,
And he dashed up the court like a fiery flame.

I saw Tommy B try to guard Jerel McNeal,
What more could one want than to be with McSteal?

They sweated and toiled all that Christmas day eve,
Without thought of quitting or rest or reprieve.

And then in a twinkle TC said they were done,
"Let's head to the Garden and have some REAL fun."

He sprang to the bus, and to the team gave a clap,
And away they all flew they were gone in a snap.

But I heard him exclaim, ere they drove out of sight,
"Merry Christmas to all, to all a good-night."

lol - it should be mentioned that that was in Coach Rab's blog "In Rab's Words".
Once a warrior always a warrior.. even if the feathers must now come with a beak.

Haha I didn't write that.  The link beneath it goes to Rab's blog.  Forgot to mention that I guess!
