BE Power Rankings
« on: February 20, 2012, 11:03:52 AM »
Back up to 3rd.

http://espn.go.com/blog/collegebasketballnation/post/_/id/49348/conference-power-rankings-big-east-11

"The only minor change: Marquette jumps a slot above Notre Dame. That’s more of a nod to how solid the Golden Eagles have looked recently."

It appears the UCONN domination is being noticed.

If this actually meant anything, ND fans would have right to wonder how Marquette is "ranked" higher, just as MU fans wonder how Wisconsin had been ranked higher than we were after we beat them.

I think what the world needs is more rankings of college basketball teams!

With ND, it can be rationalized as the game was at ND.  Neutral court or at the BC, could be a different result.  As for UW, that was a UW home game.  The argument would not hold water.

Though I also subscribe to the , "it is one game, one day".  If, since that game, UW had played very well and MU played inconsistent like UW has, I would accept that they would be rated ahead of MU.  I don't see the logic in the "we beat them, so we should be ranked ahead of them" argument.  The rankings should be on the whole body of work - that game is but one part of it.

If anyone can find any ranking that has Notre Dame ahead of us, please let me know.  We are several seeds ahead of them in brackets, 8 or 10 spots ahead of them in the polls, about 20 spots ahead of them on the computer
The www.valueaddsports.com analysis of basketball, football and baseball players are intended to neither be too hot or too cold - hundreds immerse themselves in studies of stats not of interest to broader fan bases (too hot), while others still insist on pure observation (too cold).
