Title: Wow Qdoba is invading Milwaukee
Post by: Gwaki on October 21, 2008, 09:19:15 AM
According to the email I just got from them they are now in the BC in section 204.

Need a change?

Sick of hot dogs and pretzels at the game? Well you are in luck because Qdoba Mexican Grill is now at the Bradley Center! Whether you are attending a concert, basketball or hockey game, stop by our new kiosk in Section 204.

Step one... Saturate Milwaukee with delicious tacos, burritos, and quesadillas.
Step three... World domination.

If you include the Qdoba on Oakland that's five Qdobas in about 4 to 5 miles.  I don't think they cannibalize the other's business too much, because they are all located in distinct lunch/bar districts.  For example, very few MU students would consider walking to Grand Ave. to eat at Qdoba for lunch.

Proving my point that everything bad starts in Milwaukee.

How much are they going to charge for a burrito in the Bradley Center?

From a business standpoint, I think it's somewhat of a bad idea (for the Bradley Center as a whole).  Inside the Bradley Center is an oligopoly that thrives on charging way too much for what people get.  Now, a business is coming in that will give patrons what they want for a reasonable price (for what they receive).  What happened to the days of needing $10 worth of sausages to fill up?  Now, people are going to be full and their pockets won't be empty.  Good for the fans, bad for the oligopoly.

I imagine the pricing plan will follow the same plan that fast food restaurants obey in airports.  Higher prices for the same item based on lack of competition.  I would guess the burrito which would normally run $6.50 at your neighborhood Qdoba will now cost $8.50.  I am sure the Bradley Center gets a nice chunk of that, so I am sure they will be ok.  At after all it's Wisconsin, not everyone is going to be rushing to replace their bratwurst with an Ancho Chile Burrito.

I'll play this game.  My guess is $9.  My second choice would have been $9.50.

If Miller Park can charge $10 for a bloody, the BC can charge $9 for a burrito.  I was rather suprised by the bloody price.  I didn't expect blue-collar Milwaukee would have a double digit drink for a few more years.

You think the burrito's will be the same size?  I might think they will be pre-made and smaller than normal.  The lines will get too long if they are made to order.  Predict the menu will be something like

Chix Burrito: $8
Steak Burrito: $9
Veggie Burrito: $8
Nachos: $8

I don't think they can run their full operation like a normal Qdoba.

That's blasphemy.  I try to picture a premade Qdoba burrito and I just can't do it.  However, from an operations standpoint, what if a single line fed into two (or more) separate burrito making stations?  Thus, twice (or more) the capacity.

Qdoba should dabble in margarita making at the BC.

I hope they have the BBQ burrito at the BC.

This brings up a bigger topic.  The food at the BC is bad.  There is no go-to food.  At Miller Park, I consider the polish sausage and chorizo go-to foods.  What's the closest thing at the BC?  Supreme Nachos?  Qdoba will be a very welcome addition.

What's on other people's Bradley Center wishlists for food and beverage?

Mine is something like:

1. Well made Margaritas-People love them
2. Well made Bloody Marys-Great for weekend afternoon games
3. Jimmy John's-The speed would work well in the BC setting
4. Local Product bar-Lakefront beer, Cedar Creek winery wine, Sprecher beer
5. Full brewpub restaurant-Allow a place like Milwaukee Ale House or Rock Bottom to set up a full brewpub restaurant like Friday's at Miller Park.

Jake's Deli---Chicken soup and a Reuben sandwich---very solid.

If a Sobelman's were in the BC, 500 people would have the meat sweats by halftime.

While part of me would like to have Sobelman's be readily available as often as possible, the rest of me, which is far less impulsive, would prefer not to require quadruple bypass surgery by age 27.

A Real Chilli that serves beer.  Then we can pelt Harangody with oyster crackers.

If we want to go local...Sobelman's and Jake's would be fantastic. But I'd be in the Speed Queen line if that ever opened up at the BC!

I am, as I type this, exchanging emails with a Qdoba franchise consultant in an effort to better understand their business plan/model for their arena locations.

But the only reason he is giving me info is because he believes I am looking to invest in a franchise.  Oh well.

Not that anyone cares, but it seemed like a good friday activity since the Wootoff is over.

I guess it will be wait and see for the menu...bastards.

"Thanks for your interest in the Qdoba brand. We do appreciate it. And while there's nothing all that secretive about how we operate and what we do, I suppose we only like to share our ops platform, etc with groups that are franchisees or corporate employees. Does that make sense?

Hi, LeeAnn here from the Qdoba marketing team in Wisconsin.  Thank you for all of your interest in the Qdoba brand.  If it wasn't for your support, we wouldn't be able to continue to grow.

As for the Bradley Center location, we are open during all Marquette, Bucks and Admirals games.  We will also be open for select concerts.  Right now we have a very basic menu there.  More options will be available soon.  As of now we offer chicken burritos ($6) with queso ($1) available on the side.  However, we can customize orders for vegetarians or if you prefer the burritos naked.  We prepare the food fresh every day for each event.  We hope to see you there!

The Qdoba marketing team will also be at men's basketball games with prizes.  Make sure to stop by for your chance to win.

I'm certain Ziggy would want a burrito naked. Heard things are kinda hard up in
Madison. Just make sure no one else is in the restaurant when you serve him.

Wow, not bad prices at all.  I can't believe we got someone from Qdoba on here

I'm glad I don't operate a rival food stand.  Qdoba better have a lot of burritos ready because it is going to be extremely popular at that price.  However, the qualifier is that the burrito is the same size as in its restaurants.

We ate at the Qdoba stand before yesterday's game.

The burritos were not pre-made. but they were smaller.  I ordered a chicken burrito and it was 6 bucks and about 2/3 the size they serve in the restaurant.  They did not have all the "condiments", such as lettuce or all the salsa choices.

I also ordered the naked burrito/burrito bowl.  It was almost the same size as in the restaurant.  Also, 6 bucks.
