DJO - FTs
« on: January 05, 2010, 09:10:47 AM »
Did anyone notice DJO talking to himself after missing his first free throw at the end of the Nova game? He seemed to be ranting at himself, not trying to calm himself down. Clearly, the free throw situation has gotten to his head. With this in mind, if the Georgetown game is close at the end, should DJO even be in the game? On the one hand, he is only going to conquer his ft demons by overcoming them, but, on the other hand, can we afford to lose anymore while waiting for him to overcome his ft demons? I am a big DJO fan otherwise, but I am worried about a guy jabbering to himself non-stop in a crucial late game situation after missing the front end of a one and one.

Yes.

DJO is one of our top five players, and the only way he is going to get over his issues is by making shots.  Wouldn't do him much good if Buzz benched him in crunch time every game.

I think his biggest problem right now is he isn't getting to the line enough. He needs to get there early on, hit a few, and get his confidence up for making them down the stretch.  It's similar to how Buycks played so much better when he made a few shots early on in the game.

As stated on another thread, in crunch time he is noticeably uncomfortable. JB, too.

Buycks didn't play better, he just shot more.  5-14 from the field and 1-4 from three, plus 4 fouls.

He definitely looked like he was playing with more confidence... but at this point I'd rather he dish it to Hayward and Butler who are shooting 50%

That 5-14 could have easily been 8-14 if some of his drives to the bucket went in, or if he could have drawn a little more contact to get the call.  Confidence is the #1 thing right now.  The wins will come.
