Marquette scares Brad Stevens from Butler
« on: July 14, 2018, 08:06:06 PM »
The MU vs. Butler NCAA Tournament game is on Time Warner Cable Sports right now. Great basketball game on both sides.

Derrick Wilson was a difference maker in that game. We couldn’t stop Clark at all in the first half, and Buzz threw Derrick in to hound him for 93 feet in the second half and shut him down.

And a brilliant junk defense on the last possession.

Now the Marquette vs. Miami NCAA Tournament game is in. Complete and utter domination from tip to finish. As complete of an NCAA Tournament performance as I’ve seen Marquette play in my lifetime beyond the 2003 Regional Finals over Kentucky.

The at Georgetown game from that season was on ESPN Classic last month.  What a difference in 5 seasons.  The 13 defense was physical and made opposing offenses work for anything.  The offense was not great.  Georgetown went to a zone and MU couldn't hit anything.  Our best shooter with regular minutes was probably Mayo.  Night and day.

That's the role Derrick always should have had. As soon as he had to start playing 20+ mpg, we were doomed. It obviously isn't his fault that he had to.

Mrs. 82 and I made the trip to that regional, and that game was a blast. I have to admit it also was fun watching Indiana fans trudge sadly out of the arena after getting whipped by Cuse. A great night to be a Warrior!

I really, truly thought we were gonna stomp Cuse and go to the Final Four, and I was already looking into possible travel arrangements. So blame me for looking ahead, wades!!
