Didn't want you and your cousin/wife out there circling the plane in your pick-up truck firing off your shotgun.

I don't know if bama will laugh, but I certainly did!  Well played.

The real significance of Juan's post is he thought today was cold, hope he doesn't leave town when it gets below zero and the wind is whipping off the lake.

The team was stuck in Alabama and noone told me?

Guess they missed out on some nice fruit baskets!  Oh wait, that would probably be an NCAA violation

Thought about that too...but he was at MU during a game in the middle of winter last year...so he does have an idea how cold it can get.  As Buzz would say - if the cold weather is too much for a player to handle - that player probably isn't tough enough to play for me.

I have all the confidence Juan will tough it out/get over it in due time.  That which doesn't kill you only makes you stronger.

I don't blame him.  I thought it was cold as well.  The beginning of winter always feels colder than the middle or the end.  By the time it turns 0, your body has adapted.  At least that is always my hope!

Luckily, the university's allowed to give him a nice parka.

So he has to wait until ~9:30 CST on Friday to be able to begin his travel to the Virgin Islands for Sunday's game?  Cool rule NCAA.

Juan has choices.  Don't break the rule....accept the punishment and fly down there...skip the whole thing.

I'm not being pious.  The NCAA rule is that he cannot travel with the team when he is suspended.  So he has to travel to the Virgin Islands alone.  He's a big boy.  I'm sure the pilots will pin some wings on his shirt and the flight attendants will escort him to Buzz's waiting arms.

Seriously, blaming the NCAA?  Juan broke a rule.  Juan has to live with the consequences.

Regarding the rule he broke - "Accepting tickets to a Brewers playoff game"

How does the NCAA go about determining this? Meaning, does it matter WHO he got the tickets from?

Example: What if he got the tickets from a friend of his family? Or what if he got the tickets from someone who isnt associated with Marquette?

Is that still a violation as a NCAA student athlete?

Honestly, I have wondered this quite a bit myself. If a fellow classmate that is not associated with the team asked Juan to go to the game, is this a violation? Seems silly.
I would take the Rick SLU program right now.

I was talking about this with a friend of mine who is on MU's golf team.  His understanding of the NCAA rule based on what he's heard at numerous student athlete meetings is that you cannot accept any benefits if they are offered based on your status as a student athlete.  So it would seem that if a friend was offering the ticket, it would be ok.  I don't know how they would go about determining whether or not the gift is based on the athlete status.

Pretty simply the way the NCAA handles these situations is if you accept anything as a a student athlete it is a violation.  That is why athletes are told not to accept anything and boosters/friends/fans/etc. told not to give anything.

Right...the key phrase is "based on what he heard in numerous student athletic meetings."  MU pounds this into their heads.  Juan should know better.

This is a secondary violation.  It will be reported to the NCAA, along with the self-immposed punishment, and it will likely be left at that.

Just saw Juan at the airport security checkpoint getting ready to leave Milwaukee.  Hard to miss a really tall guy decked out in MU gear with Beats headphones :)
