Title: Luke to have shoulder surgery
Post by: JakeBarnes on March 18, 2015, 11:32:48 AM
Andrew Gruman reported that Wojo told him that Fischer will have left shoulder surgery "in the near future." Not that much info out there other than that, whether it is a cleanup or a major one--nor the timetable.

Hopefully it's something with a short recovery window. I'd have hoped it'd be done during the season if it required a long timetable for recovery.

Updated: there is no timeline or knowledge of what type of surgery or recovery. Gruman said that questions were asked, but Marquette and Wojo did not oblige. So... here's to being in the dark gents (and chick).

Much needed.  Shame he didn't have it last year.

As long as it's not rotator cuff surgery.  That's the longest recovery time.

If he needs surgery, I hope he has it soon.

A. It would be helpful for next season if he can return full-strength to basketball activities sooner than later.

2. It sucks to have a bum shoulder and he deserves to feel "whole" again.

In Velazquez's article today he said that the surgery was happening this afternoon. I wonder how long it will be until he can hit the weight room. Once Luke gets stronger he's going to be a beast.

I know this is hopefully going to be a positive long term, i.e., full post-op recovery and a healthy shoulder the rest of his MU career, but this is just not what I wanted to learn about right after getting the Taylor Jr. transfer news.

Man, this program and fan base are just long overdue for a string of positive news to happen.  The five frosh has been almost the lone silver lining since we beat The U in the Sweet 16 two years ago.  It's been almost nothing but crap after crap after crap since.

I seem to remember TW putting up some posts on the necessity of this subject. He must be smiling out there in banishment land.

Nice to hear from you TW :)

Good call. "Marquette Fan in NY" created his profile the day after TW made his last post.

Luke's initial injury, at Indiana, was a shoulder sprain. Assuming that it's never quite healed (and my engineering degree) it may be surgery to repair a torn ligament.

I don't know any doctor stuff, though.

Torn labrum if I had to guess, could be a quick recovery (clean up), or longer if they did a repair (more likely based on age and activity).  Torn rotatar cuff would be a surprise, if it was a bad tear he would not of been playing this year.  "Sprain" is basically a way for the team to say his shoulder is hurt by the way, does not really mean anything, but it does technically mean ligament/ connective tissue pain or injury vs strain which is a muscular problem.

I've torn my rotator cuff twice.  Tough to lift your arm above your shoulder with that injury.  Doubt its the RC.

No need if you've got the engineering degree.  What did Bill Neary call his injuries?  A malfunction in the machinery, IIRC.

Chico knows everything. And if you don't believe me, just ask him.
