Frankly, The Marquette Avalanche would have been better than GE or Gold.

Meh.

Agreed.

We could not have done worse with what we have.

Well (answering for PRN), I think #1 is referring to Warriors->GEs, #2 is purely referring to the short-lived "Gold" brainchild.

Where does the name change from Hilltoppers to Warriors rank?... or is that one ok because most of the Hilltoppers are no longer with us?

Are there people who actually believe changing our name to Golden Eagles was a good idea? I mean, honestly? Perhaps you think Warriors was unacceptable (I certainly do not), but do you think it was a wise decision to change to Golden Eagles?

Anybody with a brain in their head knows the answer. It was HORRENDOUS! Why can't your brain washed PC zombies admit it was a bad decision?

Of course it was horrendous - of course it was a bad decision.  While I will always be a warrior, if I had to pick between GE, Gold, Avalanche or Hilltoppers, I would pick Hilltoppers.  The best of the worst... (at least it is the classiest of the four)  JMHO

Kevin's gone? Where'd he go?

I use the term "most" loosely as most of the alumni from that era are at least 75+ yrs old.

1917-1954 – Marquette nicknamed “Hilltoppers” because of its original location on a hill between North 10th and State streets.

May 1954 – Name “the Warriors” is adopted at the first meeting of the Student Senate, replacing names Golden Avalanche and Hilltoppers

I find the self-righteousness of some of the pro-warrior crowd a little hypocritical.

The "Warrior" nickname was forced on the "Hilltoppers"... where's the outrage for that name change? Why is it always about GE's and Warriors?

Is Fr. DiUlio somewhere on that list?  Closing of the 'Lanche?  Loss to Western Michigan?

I would say the demolition of the "Lighthouse", but I'm obviously biased.  I'll  go with the closing of the 'Lanche.

Why wouldn't you want your athletes to be known as warriors? For that matter, why wouldn't Indians want to known as warriors. Who is going to speak up for the bears, eagles, or mudhens?

If animals could talk maybe they would be pissed that people have labelled athletic teams with their very being.

Fr. DiUlio did and whatever half-assed PR agency that also thought "Lightning" made sense for MU. Other than that, most people think if we were moving from Warriors, we could have done better than GE. However, the vast majority has simply moved on.

On the inside of the issue SI makes its tourney picks.  They picked Utah State to win.  Their reason is "Loss of injured defensive stopper James dooms Warriors".

I guess they did not get the memo regarding the name change.
