Holy Hell. I totally forgot about Dominic. Inexcusable. We've had a number of cool little guys.
-
Dominic had a legit '43 btw.
-
Could any of these other guys dunk? I was just curious.

Me
Technically, 5 and under.

Menninger by far, Al thought the Alcindor rule hurt Menninger more than the big guy

I meant the other guys. I'll admit I was about 2 inches from touching the rim in my prime. And I worked hard to increase my vert. :(
-
Ners. And boy could he ever dunk.

I missed the "other" in your post. I saw Markus dunk in practice once. I imagine some of the others could but I can't remember any of them doing it in a game
-
Dunking at the rec center counts, eh?
-
Does dunking a tennis ball count? Because if so I was a badass dunker.
-
Ners. And boy could he ever dunk.
Thanks Wades. Yes I could. Pretty much anything you wanted from tomahawks to 360s. However, I'm too tall at 6'2" and of course Rec League only. But I appreciate the compliment.
Now another short guy who could fly during my time at MU was the walk-on, Mark Harris
-

I believe Spud had a '48 and Nate Robinson had a '45. Muggsy had a '44 but couldn't palm the ball. Mannigault had a '50 and was 6'1 at best.

Meminger.

I would not call The Dream diminutive. He was nothing like the others mentioned. His game was at the rim and he didn’t out jump people. He was just crafty and quick.

How are you and Mrs. Gato doing? He's listed at 6'0 which is my criteria.

Pretty sure Gary Rosenberger could conntribute.

Butch Lee was only 6'0?? Whooops!
I guess we have to start over.

SHEESH! Thanks for the clarification.

Butch Lee was listed as 6'1" at Marquette but he was listed at 6'0" as a pro.

I'll have to take your word for it. I never saw him play and his career numbers don't jump off the page: 4.7 ppg, 1.0 rpg, 1.1 apg. Though I don't know how accurate the old record books are.

Meaningless stats. KenPom efficiency is what tells the real story.

Sadly, we don’t have that information from that era. We’ll have to rely on the Joe Beer Gut stats

Okay. Ty for getting the facts here. My cutoff is non-negotiable. :)

Cordell Henry dunked and also had an epic vertical.

How could Scoop forget? Reminded Ners of himself.
-
Pretty sure Gary Rosenberger could conntribute.
Rosenberger was well under 6'. He was listed as 6' but was substantially shorter than me (a good 3-4 inches). I was 6'2" at the time.
-
Butch Lee was listed as 6'1" at Marquette but he was listed at 6'0" as a pro.
Diener is listed at 6'1" with a Miller Lite can balanced on his head.

Butch is 65 or 66 years old. If he WAS 6’0” in 1978 he probably IS about 5’10” now.
-
Who's our starting all heavy team?? Is it alright if I slot Davante somewhere? What a shame he lost focus his Sr. year. I'm pretty sure he got up to 305 lbs.
-
Damon Key right there

Beyond that, we had a bunch of guys who were big, but not fat.
Copa. 6'9, 254, got invited to try out for the Cowboys after college. But not even slightly overweight.
Jayce
Kerry Trotter and Pop Sims had round faces but weren't heavy. Same with Derrick Wilson
Butch seemed like a thick body but wasn't obese.

Was Cadougan in "portly" range?
I would say Junior was "stout". Sounds nicer. ( Before his Senior year, I saw Junior Cadougan score 71 points in a Summer League game at Greenfield H.S. . Prior to that night, I wouldn't have bet that Junior could score 71 points if you left him alone in a gym for 40 minutes).

It wasn't a joke, just a fact. ;)

Maybe next thread is "ALL-played out of position" team.
Guys who did not play their natural position for MU.

Sam was pretty much worshipped during his time at Marquette. VSS ... many here were hoping he wouldn't go pro after a year or 2. Very, very few trashed Henry during his fine season at Marquette.
Of course, Markus Howard was trashed far more than any of the above during his time at MU -- including by you, a guy who knows so much stink about basketball that you thought the Bucks shoulda traded Giannis and all of his "smoes" right before the Bucks went on to win the title.

He was regularly referred to as a Chucker early on until he started hitting lot of threes .

100% true, Goose.

I love JFB and I loved him at MU, but a good chunk of that trashing was justified for awhile. He improved greatly into his Jr year but he was super soft. It was infuriating. I remember just getting tossed around down low and finishing abysmally inside. He came back the next year stronger and meaner and the rest is history.
-
I ran into Odell Ball, at the speedway gas station and 92nd Burleigh, about two weeks ago.
I had on a Marquette Warriors cap, and he goes I like that cap!
He proceeds to Identify himself as Odell Ball.
We talked for a little bit, took a selfie with him.
He identified with the warrior logo versus the golden eagle which is why he spoke to me.

Odell was the Warriors' center my freshman year. We had a nice team -- Sam Worthen, Bernard Toone, Michael Wilson, Oliver Lee, Robert Byrd, Odell Ball, Artie Green. We had DePaul in trouble in the NCAAT but blew a late lead (and effen DePaul went on to play in the Magic-Bird FF). The next offseason, the only recruit Hank signed was Terrell Schlundt, and the program was on its way downhill.
Odell was an above-average college center back then -- 11 ppg on 55% shooting. I enjoyed watching him play.
-
He was regularly referred to as a Chucker early on until he started hitting lot of threes .
To defend this as I agreed, he was taking 30%+ of the shots early on and was NOT at all efficient (chucker). He settled in later and played much better. One of the better senior transfers.
That said, we didn't know then that Wojo wanted PG chuckers.
