Kolek planning to go pro
Wow, I'm very concerned for Benny. Being able to mimic Myron Medcalf's writing so closely implies an oncoming case of dementia.
We have a what are you watching thread. Figured I'd start a what are you listening to? Mainly for podcasts as we've had other threads about music, but I suppose music could be in here too.Podcasts that I've listened to for a couple years and still subscribe to:X Pardon My TakeX CBS Sports Eye on College BasketballX The Lowe PostX Scrambled EggsX Real Chilly PodcastX - RIP One Shining PodcastX 30 for 30 PodcastsThe Sideline with Evan DanielsNew listens for me:X Serial - Heard season 1 was great and that season 2 started slow so people quit on it. I gave season 1 a listen, thought it was just okay. DID FIRT 2 EPISODES Didn't start season 2.Up and Vanquished - heard a random episode of it on a car ride with my brother and his wife. Find it more interesting than Serial so far, just started it though.Atlanta Monster - haven't started it yet, but produced by the same guy that does Up and Vanquished

Am I the only one who listens to podcasts on 2x speed? There are some podcasts that I listen at normal speed -- primarily fiction where there is an actual performance going on -- but I listen to almost everything sped up. I've grown so accustomed to 2x that even dropping down to 1.5x makes it seem "normal" to me (for those that tend to be a little too fast at 2x).
I still listen at regular speed. 1.5 feels fast, though I adapt to it. I find that I really don't like the increased speed for things that make me laugh. 2x seems crazy. I wish there was a 1.25x option, because I do find the value in increasing the speed, but even 1.5 doesn't really allow any time for the hosts to breathe.
use pocketcasts as your pod catcher. you can listen at .1x increments. i listen at 1.4x but it allows you get used to speeds.
Down 1 w 5 seconds left. Doable.
Podcasts are a great me thing I don't get. (I know.... Take this to the other thread.). Who has time to listen to all these podcasts.?
For those that are fans of increasing the listening speed and are on iOS you should check out Overcast. It has the same speed up options as the others out there but also has a "smart speed" feature which will dynamically go like +/- 0.5 speed depending on how fast the speaker is talking. So as an example if you normally listen to 1.5 speed it may go down closer to 1.0 speed when there is a conversation going on but then up to 2.0 speed when there are long pauses between words. It sounds more obtrusive than it really is, plus it keeps track of how much extra time it has saved you over just doing 1.5x alone. I think I've been using it for almost 3 years and the smart speed feature has allowed me to listen to 170 hours of extra content over a flat speed increase. Kind of crazy to think about!
Thanks for the recommendation of Revisionist History. The podcasts on the Jesuits was outstanding. Especially when talking about casuistry. Something I need to do more of.
Me. Every day I drive to and from work. Depending on traffic, that’s roughly 45-75 minutes each day. Add in lunch and regular errands, and I’m probably listening to podcasts in the car about 6-8 hours in a normal week. And if I drive for work - a relatively common occurrence, that increases significantly. If I’m alone in the car, I’m almost always listening to a podcast...instead of the radio. And on weekends I often hike for a couple hours each day. It adds up.
Podcasts are a thing I don't get. (I know.... Take this to the other thread.). Who has time to listen to all these podcasts.?
The new season of Gangster Capitalism is nuts (in a good way).
Bumping this. Have a 7 hour car ride this afternoon and just caught up on all my podcasts. Any good ones people have recently listened to? I mostly listen to sports podcasts and a couple murder mystery ones (Up and Vanished was my favorite so far).
I absolutely love anything done by chef David Chang. I listen to his podcast “The Dave Chang Show” regularly. He is so smart. Other food and food culture shows I listen to are “Proof” and “The Sporkful.” My other always up to date is “I’m Okay You’re Okay I’m Not Okay You’re Not Okay” with Bob Schneider and Clint Wells. Bob Schneider is one of my most favorite song writers, and he is creative, funny, cringy, thought provoking. It’s mostly light.Non-food, I love “Gangster Capitalism,” I really got into “Louder Than A Riot,” of course “Revisionist History,” “The Pitch, “In the Dark,” “More Perfect,” “Opening Arguments,” “Philosophize This,” “Reply All,” “Radiolab,” “The Argument,” “Broken Record,” “Code Switch,” “Decoder Ring,” “Invisibilia,” “The Skeptics Guide to the Universe,” “The Stoop,” “You Are Not So Smart.”I like crime podcasts, too, so “Serial,” “Cold,” “Broken Harts.” And, I’ve listened to several business ones from Wondery. I like quick hitters like “Daily Stoic” and daily ones from NPR, too like “Planet Money.” So many. A few on my list that I haven’t listened to yet are “Slow Burn,” “Uniquely Milwaukee,” “World’s Greatest Con,” “Stuff the British Stole,” “The Just Enough Family,” “Swindled,” “Stuff To Blow Your Mind,” “Still Processing.” I have a bunch more in the library.
The only thing I've seen David Chang on is Who Wants to be a Millionaire when he won the million dollars for his charity. He seemed like a really cool guy, so maybe his podcast will be the one I listen to on the way home. Thanks!
