Losing two high quality head coaches in less than 3 months isn't great.

Based on the NYC Circles event, him and Wojo are close.

I agree with this.

Let's face it, Marquette is a stepping stone institution when it comes to athletics.  When is the last time a truly successful coach retired from Marquette on their own terms?

It's as if the real competition is in having and keeping a good coach, and not just having good results.

This is what coaches do.

1977?

1983 if you consider Hank's 126-50 record to be good

Is Navy a step up from MU LAX?

Is this a moving-closer to home thing?   Or a pay raise thing?

Navy is historically a better program than Marquette.  And Amplo may have been thinking that it was time to bail.  They had taken some steps back the last couple of years.

Coach Amplo is a tremendous individual. Service Academy job is probably the only thing he would have left MU for . As the culture fits in with his approach. He turned down Princeton and UVA .

Amplo built a sustainable program and I hope they promote the assistant coach.  The Team is positioned to do well next year, so don't want to lose any momentum.

He turned down UVA?  I find that hard to believe and couldn't see any articles alluding to it.  UVA is a top 3 program of all time in the sport historically.  The 2 down years before replacing their coach in 2017 was the only hiccups they had in the past 2 decades.  Turning down UVA and taking Navy thereafter would be like a CBB coach turning down UNC and taking Notre Dame.

I'm not sure that is a bad thing, as some people make it.

Joe turned down Michigan, Virginia and Princeton. He pretty much is considered the hottest young coach out there and name comes up first in every search. Joe is a tough nosed Long Island guy and the recruit profiles he likes to go after don't really fit the mold of the schools he turned down. At the time Virginia had significant off the field  issues, which is why they pushed out their coach, and I don't think Joe wanted to wade into that hornets nest .   Navy is more in line with the type of kids Joe likes to go after. Lacrosse is a partial scholarship sport .  Navy because it is a service institution gives full academic rides, which I think Joe can use effectively on the recruiting trail. Also Navy is in the middle of the hot bed of lacrosse, and lacrosse is important to the identity of  Navy Athletics. The good news is Joe built a durable foundation and infrastructure for the sport at MU. Bill Scholl has an interesting decision now. Does he hire the assistant who has been there since day 1 or go outside .

Amplo never coached at Duke. He coached at Hofstra with John Danowski who is now the coach at Duke.

Marquette lacrosse opening mentioned locally.
Yale assistant is the top candidate.

Yale may lose both assistants to head coaching jobs

Amplo talks about leaving Marquette for Navy - https://www.capitalgazette.com/sports/navy_sports/ac-cs-amplo-talks-navy-lacrosse-0609-story.html

Quote
Amplo told The Capital he could have stayed at Marquette for 30 years.

“I’ve been blessed because Marquette was a great opportunity and I worked for an administration that believed in me, surrounded me with great people and provided the resources to compete at the highest level,” Amplo said. “I’ve had two other opportunities to take some pretty good jobs in our sport and chose not to do so because Marquette is such a great place.”

So, who messed with happy?

From the Capital Gazette Research Report on Amplo

“Just the fact you get to work at one of the world’s greatest institutions, it’s hard to compare anything with that. You factor in the type of student-athlete you’re going to be associated with and that makes it even more attractive,” Amplo added. “On top of all that, the Naval Academy is located in what my wife and I consider one of the best places to live. Annapolis is almost like a resort town. This is a great place to live and raise a family.”

I guess Amplo recruits are still headed to Marquette.

The New Haven Register All-Area Lacrosse Team has a student from Xavier High School in Middletown headed to Marquette to play lacrosse.

It would be a little tough for Amplo to bring all of his recruits to the Naval Academy.

Yup, that whole military commitment thing post graduation could get be a small impediment.

They could have decommitted and gone elsewhere, no?
