Don't know if anyone mention this, but Cuonzo(might be spelled wrong)  Martin is in the mix as well. I personally don't think we have a shot at Shaka Smart and Ben Howland isnt coming either. Thats just my opinion!  However, Cuonzo would be a perfect fit!

They must be impressed by two straight NITs and making the NCAA as an eleven seed.

Somehow I'd be more excited if we made a run at Crean.  His seat was cooler than Martin's most of the year.  Either Tim Maymon is trying to screw us over, or we need him to get in Cuonzo's ear and tell him how terrible Marquette is.

Was going to say this.  Maybe we can make it to 11-7 in conference and the play-in game by 2018.

Might as well.  We can add precautionary health services for Boeheim to our basketball budget so Hopkins lasts more than two years.

If we're down to the mid tier two's, go get him.  It might be a decent two or three years.  Just send vitamins to Syracuse every day to keep Boeheim healthy.

He's on the hot seat at Memphis, 5 years there and not past the round of 32.  He recruits well but they all play street ball.  He's being compared to what Calipari did before him.

Martin makes 1.3M a year, lower end of the SEC.  At end of year, UT was about ready to start looking elsewhere, but his team got hot.  He is in the SEC and could possibly take his team to the Elite 8.  Don't see it.

Pastner - not going to happen.  Really?

This board, and to a lesser extent the scout board, are the only places that this has happened.    The process continues.    Those who know aren't talking.    Nor should they be.   Save your powder until the announcement is made.   THEN lose your mind.

Cuonzo Martin - but don't pick on Wardle
« Reply #55 on: March 26, 2014, 07:27:21 PM »
I am skeptical a Power Conference coach will come - much less one in the Sweet 16 - would come to the Big East this season while everyone is trying to figure out if we are a Power Conference or Midmajor. The RPI is hard to argue with, but noone in the Sweet 16 is bad in a first year.

That being said, this does point to why we can't be impatient. If the coach is coming from a team still playing, I'd certainly rather this play out than have an early pick.

Also, please stop picking on Brian Wardle. I realize hiring one of your own makes you look small, etc., but the way he improved Green Bay he could get a great gig somewhere and I hate to look like we are tearing down. Many of us were very concerned Buzz was a very unexciting pick, and he was objectively our second best coach ever if you base it on percent of years in tournament, in Sweet 16, etc.
The www.valueaddsports.com analysis of basketball, football and baseball players are intended to neither be too hot or too cold - hundreds immerse themselves in studies of stats not of interest to broader fan bases (too hot), while others still insist on pure observation (too cold).

Who do u think is a good REALISTIC choice?

Realistic?  After these last three days, reality is not like nirvana.  It is a collection of individual's thoughts, perceptions, bragging of confidential informants, and reporters trying to beat their competition to the story proclaiming they were the ones who broke the story and had it first.  The whole "you heard it here first folks" theme.  Thats what they get paid for, breaking the story and putting it on their journalistic resume.  Others are proclaiming who it will be and if wrong, then they will say the deal was in place and fell through. No lose situation.

That being said, Smart and Howland are the choices in which the basketball program would benefit the
most.  Should be no argument amongst any of the scoopers regarding that fact.  Who is option #3 is beyond anyone of this board's thoughts at the present time and any name being thrown out on social media is not a comprehensive thought at this time.

BTW, if MU holds a presser to answer questions about a coaching search, it may be the first in the history of NCAA DIV I basketball.  Got to admit, it is fun reading all this stuff and shaking the head at times.

I HATED the Buzz pick, but at the time nobody knew of his unquestionable charisma. He has something. Not sure Wardle does. Buzz was an unknown. I think Wardle is a "known."

+1.  Would rather have the worst half of Wardle and Martin combined than a full Pastner.

So, if hired, we wouldn't be competitive for another 3-4 years???
should that be teal?  you could say that(competetive) about any coach, good or not so good
don't...don't don't don't don't

Cuonzo Martin is a Purdue guy.  Matt Painter has some issues going on there, no way would I hire Martin for a number of reasons, but that is one.

For as much as people on this board can't wait to say how hot the seat is for certain coaches, let us not forget how hot Martin's seat was just two months ago.  Some of you guys really need to make up your minds
