Five bowl games today, 0-for-5, with three of the five blowouts. Nice going.

Don't forget Nebraska's loss.  They are a B10 member next season.  Embarassing for the legends and the legacies, no?

Worst single bowl day in college football HISTORY.  Ah, it has a nice ring to it.

Marquette Football Rules!

What's life like sucking off the teat of the taxpayer for hundreds of scholarships (including corresponding Title IX women's scholarships), free facilities and the like? If only we could all get away with pointing a gun at the back of people's heads, robbing them blind and getting away with it like yourselves.

Marquette football won as many games today as the b-10 combined.   And scored almost as many points.

Marquette Football did not lose today!  Great job, TCU!  More reason why I like Texas.

The 0 - 5 performance by the Big 10 is the worse single day performance for a conference in the history of college football bowls.

Welcome to 2011 Big 10 football fans.  You're a very good D1 AA conference pretending you can compete with the SEC.

FYI - If Auburn wins against Oregon on January 10, this would be the fifth year in a row that the SEC won the national championship (and 6 of the last 8), spread among four different schools.  The other winners are LSU, Florida and Alabama.

By contrast it has taken the Big 10 54 years to win 6 national championships (OSU 1957, Minn 1960, MSU 1965, OSU 1968, OSU 2002, Mich 1997).  And since 1957 the SEC has won 18 National Championships.

i believe MU also lost to TCU in the 1936 (or 1939) Cotton Bowl.  After the first qtr i thought the over was going to be topped easily, but that did not end up happening.  Given how the rest of the Big Ten performed, sure it is not helping TCU's cause for national respect.

Pretty funny UW-Madison fans don't realize MU students and a large percentage of their grads are helping fund their beloved Badgers.

And how unnatural carnal knowledgeed up is college football that TCU breezes through an undefeated season and isn't in consideration for a national championship?

UW's athletic department receives no state funds. So you're wrong 1000000000000000000000000000000000000000000 times in one thread, impressive. This thread is pretty funny. What's the saying, "people in glass houses shouldn't throw stones." Well here we got a bunch of homeless people throwing stones all over the place. Stick to talking about basketball, it's pretty clear most people here are clueless about college football.

Yes, the Athletic department does not receive state funds to "fund the Athletic Department", but that's just a shell game anyway.  Now, you do know those things like Salaries, pensions, etc of UW athletic department personnel...I assume you are aware of them?  You're damn right those are state funded and paid for by citizens of the state.

Well when they say that they receive no state funds to cover operating expenses, I assumed that included salaries. Salaries are operating expenses right, what else would they be classified as? I honestly don't know where the money for the pensions come from, if you could provide some kind of source it would be appreciated.

Question: Are the 100's of matching Title IX women's scholarships in revenue-consuming sports (which would be all women's sports) part of "operating expenses"? Because if they are for UW, I guarantee that it is a rarity among government colleges. Pretty easy to help fund a football program, including athletic scholarships, when you can get the taxpayer to fund dozens of women's sports that don't make a dime on their own.

If you click on the 2009-2010 annual report and go to page 50 it shows their athletic department is budgeting just over 6 million dollars for financial aid under operating expenses. It doesn't break it down on how much goes to each program, but I'm assuming that covers all athletes at the school. They also budget around 32.5 million dollars for "salaries and fringes" and again I'm assuming fringes would encompass any retirement plans, but I can't be sure. Wisconsin is one of the few Universities that has an athletic department that actually makes money. They are probably an exception to the norm when it comes to taxpayer money being spent on college athletic departments. The athletic departments of UWM, Whitewater, etc are probably a much bigger expense than UW Madison.

Was at the Rose Bowl and reveled in >60,000 Buckies having their parade ruined.

Profane chants, obnoxious t-shirt messages and every one in red drunk and thinking they were funnier than the next person.
The post game tailgating was better than the Pre.

Since we're on the topic of big-ten futility anybody watch the wisconsin-illinois game today and know why bucky threw up 35 three pointers, over half their attempts from the field?

Didn't watch but my guess is they have a bunch of slow white guys who grew up practicing 3 pointers because they couldn't rely on pure athleticism.

As for UW football, did you guys watch the game? TCU looked extremely good and wisco hung in there and had a good chance to win. No doubts TCU could play with Auburn.

Yes, watched the game and enjoyed every second of it.  I kept waiting for the team that put 70 points up on all these teams, the one running up the scores the last few games, the one going for two point conversions when they were up 4 touchdowns, the one that so many experts picked would throttle this non-AQ team.

I watched and loved every second of it.  Of extra special pleasure was my local liberal dirt bag paper, the LA Times, and their articles about how Wisconsin would win by 10 points plus and would be playing for the national title if not for a screwup one day in East Lansing.  It was as if TCU should just be happy to get the invite.

Yes, watched and enjoyed every second of it...as well as the other 4 losses on the way to the worst performance in college bowl history.

10/11 2-5 (OSU still to play)
09/10 4-3
08/09 1-6
07/08 3-5
06/07 2-5
05/06 3-4
04/05 3-3
03/04 3-5
02/03 5-2
01/02 2-4
00/01 2-4

One decade of bowl futility and a new decade of futility kicked off yesterday.

The bottom line is that even if the athletic department "operating expenses" receives no state funds, state funds are being used to support other university expenses. Chicos got it right here. $10 million of Camp Randall's renovations were  funded by the state (http://www.nationalwclub.com/member/chalktalkpdfs/NW-Newsletter1.pdf). Facilities are key to recruiting...and there you have it. You think you're going to get top level guys when you are playing in a dumpy stadium?  You can try to skirt it all you want, but UW-Madison athletics receive support from taxpayers.

it wasn't that long ago that the athletic dept at uw-madison lost 5 million dollars in a season..., the board of regents appealed and got an increase in revenue from the taxpayers.  believe ade sponburg was ad and donna shalala was chancellor.
