Seems like MU has tried everybody on the roster at some point in these losses to FSU, WV and now DU.

Make an option for "Myself."  It'd be a winner.

This scared/tentative attitude in the last minute amongst the whole team should fall somewhat on the head coach.   He needs to instill more confidence/looseness in our guys.   Teams take on the attitude of their leader.

Travis Diener was the best at icing games, I miss him.

Hayward missed one.  It happens.  I would have loved it if we had inbounded the ball to him the second time, too.  Hayward would not have missed twice.  He is all heart, and one missed free throw doesn't change that.

I wanted Zar on the line against WVU and Nova, but unfortuantely he can't bring the ball up the court, so he must pass if the other team refuses to foul him (which WVU did).

Simply put, you need your point guard to demand the ball, and know what to do with it, at the end of a close game.  If you don't have that you will lose most close games in college basketball.  That is what is happening.  It's not luck, it's below average point guard play.  Not to mention a jump shot over Acker is the definition of a clean look.

I was there watching the game and hoping that they would foul Hayward.  Seconds later when they fouled Coobie, I sensed a miss was coming.  What's this poll going to prove other than any of us responding to it can be wrong.
Put a gun to my head and I'll still take Hayward.  But I might not live to talk about it.

How about Damian Saunders?

Saw him in person last night against RI Where he had 21 points, 11 Rebs, 8 of which were offensive. Also averaging 14.8 ppg and 13 rebs.  AT 6'7" and 210 I wonder if we could have used a guy like this?

I don't think it matters at this point who takes the free throws. Free throws are 50% confidence, and I don't know if anyone on this team has confidence he can make a free throw to ice a game. We're snakebit right now.

DePaul wasn't going to let the inbounds pass come to Hayward again. They had 3 guys right in the area, and essentially forced it to go to Cubi. Crazy thing is, we have a real strong free throw shooting team, but they can't do it down the stretch. Makes it all the more painful.

I agree with what's been said here: Lazar would not have missed a 2nd one. If he's not an option, give me Mo. He's shown the confidence and composure to get things done offensively when he has to, and FT's aren't an area where size/skills get in the way of that.

Honestly, Acker.  For all my complaints about him, I feel like his percentage is high and he would make them.  He has before.  Hayward was my first choice as well after the first miss, but I'll be honest, Cubillan was the last person I wanted to see with the ball there.  Id have preferred anyone else, and thats not revisionist history.

Acker missed the front end of a 1 and 1 vs. Georgetown that likely would have cost us the game had they not come down and missed on the ensuing possession.  Fact of the matter is that every one of our starters last night has now had a go at missing clutch ft's to ice a game this year. Butler vs. FSU, DJO vs.WVU, DJO and Hayward vs. Nova at home, Acker vs. Georgetown, and Hayward and Cubillan last night. Maybe Buycks or Cadougan should take them? I think we lead the Big East in FT percentage, but if they kept stats on the final minute or two I bet we'd rank dead last.

In our losses to DePaul, Nova twice, Florida State and West Virginia I think we've been outscored 15-2 in the final minute.

What kinda free throw shooter is Cadougan?

I read that Vander Blue recently went 12-12 from the line in a game, so there's hope for next year.

Of course, overall FT% and making them in the last 30 seconds with the game on the line are two different things entirely.

My concern with all these FT misses in the final couple minutes is that we always seem to be in a 1-and-1 situation.  Perhaps we should be more aggressive earlier in the second half and try to force the officials to blow some whistles so we could be in a double bonus situation toward the end of games.

When was the last time we were in a double bonus situation to close out a game?

In years past, we had three guards that were very aggressive to the rim...McNeal, DJ and Matthews.  We took more free throws than our opponents attempted if I recall correctly.

We're much more of a three point shooting team now, and as such we are not in the bonus as quickly because the fouls don't add up as quick.

That was exactly the point of my post.  Butler seems to get fouled frequently and DJO is a good driver - perhaps we could try to get some more whistles early in the half to get the fouls to accumulate faster.

There's just a bit more leeway in FT shooting when you're guaranteed 2, instead of having to make the first one.
