I wholeheartedly agree with this movie review

"Anyway, the game happens. Rudy is stuck on the bench in his little football costume. Notre Dame is winning by a lot, so finally—after more pressure from his team and the crowd—the coach is like, “Whatever, Rudy, you dumb unnatural carnal knowledge. Go on the field and run around in your little circles or whatever. The unnatural carnal knowledge do I care.” So Rudy gets out there, yells “what do I do!” (answer: football), does some pointless plays that don’t really do much, and becomes a hero. Wow, mediocrity at its finest.

You know, it’s strange that millennials are always being dubbed as the “everyone gets a trophy” generation when Rudy—unnatural carnal knowledgeing RUDY—is considered one of the most inspirational stories to come out of the ’70s. This is quite literally the story of a bad football player who gets to play for an elite team simply because he asks enough times. Hell, at least Friday Night Light’s Matt Saracen had to earn it."

I just appreciate the friday night lights reference. On a side note, could you imagine if coach taylor was the marquette basketball coach? More job rumors than buzz.

Probably not....as I stated, I haven't seen the movie.  Likely similar to your threads about basketball and former MU coaches.   ;)

Mind pulling those threads up for me? I don't log as many hours on scoop as you do.

I think you can do it all by yourself.  Remember when you used to attack WarthogDriver (Keefe) ad nauseum?....from that "era" on, plenty of material.  The most recent being the one where you predicted he would be fired with the Bleacher Report article....that one was funny.

Sums up my feelings pretty well. I hate these feel-good sports movies. My other pet peeve with sports movies is when the star is not athletic at all. The thing that made Costner great in a couple baseball movies was that it was instantly obvious that he had played baseball asa kid.

You're telling me Madonna didn't sell you as a baseball player?

Rudy is terrible, but it has a great soundtrack.

Costner is likely on of the worst actors out there. But i agree that watching him as a ball player it is clear he played the game beyond Pony League.

One guy I can't stand as an actor is Aidan Quinn. He is just awful. I always assumed he got his break because he was Anthony Quinn's son but that isn't the case.

Costner is bad - but not Keanu Reeves/John Wayne bad.

Not just as a kid, Costner went to Cal State Fullerton, a baseball powerhouse out here.  He didn't play for the team, but played with many of the team....high school player, etc.   He used to work out with the team after he became an actor.  Auggie Garrido was the coach at CSUF for many years, and then went on to Texas....Costner has a home in Austin and works out with the Longhorns as well.  So he definitely has the fluid moves and understands the game.

Agreed.  Just like Charlie Sheen's performance in Major League actually made the baseball portions of the movie somewhat believable.

Though let's not discount John C Reilly's performance as Costner's battery mate in FLOTG... the hotel scene after the perfecto made it clear that JCR has been drinking like a pro since Pony League.
Wow, I'm very concerned for Benny.  Being able to mimic Myron Medcalf's writing so closely implies an oncoming case of dementia.

I like JCR. Whether playing a porn dude, backstop, or a badass on a wild river he is a great talent.

I think his roles as a comic foil roles to Will Ferrell are a waste of talent.

Ferrell, Chevy Chase, Adam Sandler...grossly overrated hacks.

Will Farrell is absolutely overrated, I agree with you on that. Chevy Chase was funny as all hell though.

Speaking of movies, I saw in this morning's news.

Erik Bauersfeld, Voice of 'Star Wars' Character Admiral Ackbar, Dies at 93
by The Associated Press

Erik Bauersfeld, who turned three words from a minor acting role — "It's a trap!" — into one of the most beloved lines of the "Star Wars" series, has died.

His manager, Derek Maki, says the performer died Sunday at his home in Berkeley, California, at the age of 93.

— IMDb (@IMDb) April 5, 2016
Bauersfeld stayed in radio for much of his life. He stumbled into the "Star Wars" series while working on a radio project at Lucasfilm.

Bauersfeld ended up voicing the roles of both the rebellion's Admiral Ackbar and Jabba the Hut's ghostly steward Bib Fortuna in 1983's "Return of the Jedi."

Admiral Ackbar also appeared in "The Force Awakens."

Despite limited screen time, the character with a large domed head and fish-like eyes was a definite "Star Wars" fan favorite. His line "It's a trap!" even became a popular meme.

The body of Ferrell's work is overrated, but he peaked when he talent around him.  Anchorman (original), Talledega Nights, and Step Brothers.  Everything else is bleck.
