More from Big East Media Day

Written by: noreply@blogger.com (Henry Sugar)

Just a little bit more from yesterday's Big East Media Day.

Even though Rosiak wasn't among the 200+ people  that were credentialed for Big East Media Day yesterday, he still managed to pop out some excellent blog entries.  First, he delivered an interview with Jerel McNeal.  Then, Rosiak also checked in with an interview with Buzz.  As always, nice job by Rosiak.

The conference website has additional information from yesterday's event as well.  The initial page has Mike Tranghese's opening comments.  The press conference is about ten minutes, but it's kind of worth it.  Tranghese welcomes the two new coaches to the league, talks about the history of the league and growing up with ESPN, and then even gives a glimpse of what the partnership with SNY for TV will mean.  There are several additional links on that page as well for pre-season honors and the coaches poll, most of which has already been covered.

MarquetteHoops.com also delivers two new interviews.  The first is an interview of Jimmy Butler, and the second is an interview with Dwight Burke.

The MUTV-Sports blog provides some hints about their broadcast of Marquette Madness. In addition, the official GoMarquette.com site has unveiled more of their video.  In case you forgot the context for this commercial, here's a picture of the Converse Ad.  I still love that ad, and am excited to see the full video version.  Speaking of Converse, www.marquettewillbeback.com has a counter until the start of the NCAA tournament (144 days).  Finally, in case you were wondering how long Buzz has been on the job, the moderators at MUScoop put up a counter on their stats page.  (199 days)

Marquette Madness is two days away.  Try to make it in person, and if not, check it out online.  Even if you can't watch it live, the MUTV-sports folks are saying it will be archived to watch later.

How does the team's main beat writer for the largest paper in a Big East city not get a credential for media day?

I'm sure he could have been credentialed.

I would guess that the JS made this decision based on money, and their lack thereof.

We were talking about this a few days ago .. Would not surprise me in the least, with the JS's declining status, revenue, layoffs .. a MU beat reporter .. doesn't have a lot of job security.

So are you saying that Rosiak isn't even *in* New York?  Wow, that is really a shame.  OTOH, he's obviously doing a great job.

I guarantee that if Rosiak wanted a credential he would have had one. MUTV got invited to media day. We didn't go because of money, which is probably the same reason why he didn't go.

nope he stayed home.. those interviews were done on the phone (as his mcneal interview says in the second line).

I agree with topper's speculation as the newspaper market has certainly changed.  The papers have been seeing a decreasing return for years as people slowly switch to getting their news online rather than print.  Unfortunately for the industry, they can't simply put their info online and make their money through advertising revenue or subscription fees as it is a much more competitive arena with a much more global audience.  They really need to add value around the information and redefine their contribution to their readers (old and new alike) in order to keep them coming.  They've shown some good attempts to undertake this online metamorphosis (with their introduction of blogs, the sportsbubbler forum, etc.) so who knows, maybe they are thinking along these lines already.  I think Rosiak is heading in the right direction with this transformation and acceptance of the online technology.  If they didn't send him based on money then they're shooting themselves in the foot - the direct in-person perspective is exactly the type of added value they should be looking for.
