Praying for the ACC or Big Ten to get Madison Square Garden
« on: March 16, 2019, 09:15:35 AM »
I am completely fed up with the East Coast bias.  The BET is nothing short of rigged.  The Big East doesn't want its midwestern teams in the tournament finals - that is clear.  MSG is filled with a bunch of arrogant jacka$$es.

If the ACC or Big Ten could somehow steal MSG from the Big East for their tournaments, I would gladly welcome the change.

I am done pulling for this conference, Marquette against the world

Completely agree.  I am done with the BET.  It is a fraudulent product to get NY/NJ teams in the final.

If it was easy Dayton would do it.

We’ll get there.

We’re on a collision course with a Big East Championship, the only variable is time.

This is silly. The conference is perfectly balanced between East and West and new and old.  NY is the media capitol of the world. It’s partners are there.  These other conferences play in half empty arenas for their tournaments.

What’s broken, and has been a problem all year, is the officiating. Stu Jackson has a lot of work to do in the officiating department, and he has been under the gun all season. I am not sure the officiating alliance with other conferences is working or is led very well.

Last night was very bad for the conference overall. This from the N.Y. Post (no East Coast bias):

I don't think it's "rigged" or the conference "wanting" East coast teams in the championship. I think it's mostly a by-product of East coast teams getting a de-facto home court advantage against Midwestern teams, such that officials are making calls as though East coast teams are in their home gyms.

Marquette would have been a better television draw. Why would their be a bias toward Seton Hall?

The tin foil hatters in this fan base astound me.

Milwaukee area population vs. NYC area population. Pretty comparable I guess.

You think people in New York follow Seton Hall?  It’s a dinky private school in a metro area full of them.

Bull s$$t, N.Y. Post, "work to be done" come on.  They have had years to fix the problem.  From their point of view there is no problem.  I suggest we get real, take the T.V. money and call a spade a spade.

That is why the Brooklyn arena is comming on strong.  We will always be an independent without football.  And that train left the station in 1961.

I don’t think you understand that the BET is about ticket sales and not television ratings.  With the ACC and the Big Ten desiring to play their tournaments in MSG, the Big East needs a sell-out.  SHU is a better draw for tickets sales than Marquette.  Period.

The BE just extended its deal with MSG through 2028. There is nothing to worry about.

Zero reason to expect bias.

I don't know what the deal is, but in the 6 years of the new league, the participants in the final have been...

Villanova (x5)
Seton Hall (x3)
Providence (x2)
Xavier
Creighton

The first three are the only teams to win it. I have no real "take" on this at the moment, just presenting the data.

Well done for openers, thank you.

Amen brother.  My sentiments exactly on this league.  Trouble is, it's our best option now as far as conference affiliation.

It is our only option, good $$$ and great exposure, so we ( midwest teams) get disrespected.

You all need to settle down. The officials were awful. They've often been rough this year, although I'm not sure they're any worse than other conferences more or less. But the conspiracy stops there. Maybe they were slanted by it being a defacto home game for SH, but that's about it. The BE isn't biased against midwest teams.

There is no anti-midwest conspiracy.

There is however a major home court advantage for the east coast teams. Not malicious, just a reality of playing the tournament in NYC.

THIS.  And because of that, a disadvantage to teams without that base there.

Not that many folks in the NYC area population give two hoots about Seton Hall. Most couln't find it on a map.

I was at the "Brooklyn arena" for the A-10 games yesterday. There were about 10 people there. Barclays is sort of a second class place.

The championship would be a sellout no matter who was in it.
