Everyone's favorite Jon "it's all fun and games until someone loses a buy game" Rothstein is at it again. Picked Marquette 8th behind the likes of St. John, Butler and Creighton.

I know St John's is trending up, but did Rothstein go there? He seems to live tweet from their practices at least once a year and always overrates them.
Hmm...didn't go there but he is a NYC guy who attended Ithaca.

He is fron New York and still lives there.

St. John's could be very good

Can't go wrong with that statement.

On paper, I think we are the 7th best team. But us, Creighton, and Butler are basically a coin flip IMHO. I have St. John's decently behind us but they are going to be the popular rapidly improving team this year because of few departures and adding two impact transfers. I think they need one more year but I could be wrong.
BE has 8 teams that could be good enough to earn an at large bid. I think it will be 7 but if SJU is good enough....Depaul and Georgetown might be bad enough to allow for it.
Gonna be another hellish year in the conference.

Matt Heldt, one of the Break Out Player of the year candidates.
Obviously, he saw both Ice Cream Truck videos....

Way Too early to put any stock in his article, some have deadlines to meet.

Not sure if st johns will be good or not but they will be extremely talented and with have a lineup of extremely highly rated players coming out of HS

Frankly hard to argue with this piece. St. Johns absolutely smoked us last year @MSG and probably will again at least once. Maybe Butler will be in disarray but they swept us last year and we did lose a lot. Guess it will depend on all our under the radar guys. 7 BE teams in tourney probably right all with 10 seeds except for Nova and Xavier.

I'll put money on 5 BE teams not having a 10 seed in the NCAA Tournament...

Next time you guys whine about this, read past the headlines. Specifically:
1) Marquette has two under-the-radar freshmen in Cain and John
2) Harry Froeling will be an under the radar impact transfer
3) Matt Heldt will be a break-out player.
These are positive developments and suggest our team might be fairly good this coming year. I'm not sure I agree with Heldt, unless he defines more clearly what Heldt is breaking out from, but I hope that Matt develops into a significant contributor.
What I think Rothstein is saying is there are too many unknowns about Marquette at this time to make a strong judgment about the team. I'd probably agree with that general thought. I don't think we're an 8th ranked team in the Big East but also keep in mind that he said the next few teams after Providence, to include St. John's, Creighton, Butler and us, probably are pretty close together.
In Rothstein's defense, all these teams have big unknowns. If the newbies pan out for us and a couple other Big East contenders, we might be able to move Xavier, Providence and Seton Hall off the top four perches. I'm not holding my breath that anyone will get Villanova, but Jay Wright, look out!

This is March.

We have a few returning starters who are good and a lot of question marks. Let's see how we do. Nothing else to say at this point really. 7-8, who cares?
