Title: Northwestern Will Be Dancing
Post by: Tugg Speedman on March 01, 2017, 09:23:28 PM
Enjoy Northwestern tearing the heart out of Michigan earlier tonight ..

Michigan ties the game at 65 with 1.7 seconds left.  NU in-bounds the ball with an 80 foot pass and lays it in at the horn to win.  Enjoy (sorry Keefe) ...

http://www.espn.com/video/clip?id=18801774

Northwestern is now 21 - 9 overall.

They are 10 - 7 in the Big 10.  This is the first time NU has won 10 B1G games since March 4, 1933 ... the same day that FDR was inaugurated.

That should do it for NU, I'm calling them a lock.  They could lose to Purdue at home Sunday to finish the season and then lose in the first game of the B1G tourney and I still think they go dancing.

disagree?

Nope, lock it up for the boys in purple. Couldn't have happened against a better team as well (except maybe Wisconsin or Notre Dame)

He certainly deserves at least an interview. What he has done with that program is incredible.

I know you dont turn down Duke, and this im sure if offered he would take the job. But he just looks so happy being at Northwestern, and back in the Chicagoland area and if youve seen a NU game this year, you've probably seen Doug jumping around in the stands as well.

Also, in his press conference is Chicago accent was in top form.

Congrats to the Cats. Just saying, I called it two years ago  ;)

Check out this video though that the Northwestern athletic department put together, pretty incredible stuff. Though it makes me think NU will now get trounced in the first round if they keep on this "just happy to be here" mood.

Most interesting thing about NW in for me is that they're playing Vandy, a team we beat by 2,000 points yet was still seeded higher than we are. Very curious to see how that turns out.

With Collins getting Northwestern into the tourney, Wojo getting MU back, Notre Dame's run in the ACC  and Johnny Dawkins getting UCF into the NIT in his first year (after the team won 37 games the previous three seasons), not a bad weekend for the Krzyzewski coaching tree.

Might be the highest ever combined SAT scores in a tournament game....

ND-Princeton will be up there too...especially if you use the inflated scores that ND athletes claim to have gotten.

So are Seth Meyers and Steven Colbert.  So NU should get lots of love on TV.

The media is full of Northwestern grads, so they'll get plenty of love. In many ways, Northwestern is fa more of a national story than a Chicago story.

Historically, they are a complete afterthought in the Chicago area, though I imagine the bandwagon has grown considerably this season.

She is very well preserved for a 56-year-old woman.  If she has had anything done, you can't tell.

She is also incredibly wealthy outside of her acting and producing work.  Her father was a French born businessman worth over $3 billion when he died last year.

Actually that is a different company.  Her father comes from the Louis Dreyfus fortune, which is a big European agricultural firm like Archer Daniels Midland.

Louis-Dreyfus is one of the world's great commodities trading firms.  Her father Gerard was a great oil trader who had the influence on an OPEC minister on that market.

Thanks for the link, chick. That was a hilarious read. I especially liked:

Kentucky is laudable for its openly mercenary approach to the sport and utterly despicable in every other regard. Kansas is a five-man letdown. Michigan State will either beat everyone or crap out early, so long as it’s the opposite of whatever my bracket says. North Carolina is tolerable only because they aren’t Duke. And Iowa State is worthless.

I actually rather like Wilbon even though he is insufferable about NW and all things Chicago.

As for NW producing fairly well-known sports media ... I wouldn't be surprised if Marquette not only has produced more, but WAY more.

The difference is that MU journalism grads don't walking around bragging about where they graduated from like it's the equivalent of winning a  Pulitzer.

Also, MU grads act like they've been there before. Which, unlike Northwestern, they have.  Many times.   8-)

I liked Wilbon till he became a grouchy, "get off my lawn" dinosaur who refuses to acknowledge the changing media space, and worse yet derides those who aren't old print media like him.

You can say that about a ton of journalists though.

I like it.

I will admit to being quite the puffy-chested MU alum sportswriter during the 2003 tournament.
