JMay Transferring Again?
« on: January 28, 2011, 09:42:32 PM »
Tenn beat LSU by 22 points.  At the end of the game the bench was cleared.  Everyone played except JMay.  This marks the fourth game in a row he has gotten zero minutes.

Volunteer Nation has this thread about him.

They say he might transfer again but others say he should not as they expect the Vols to be awful next year and he will get tons of playing time by default.  He is also shooting 3/14 from the FT line this year (20%).  Wow!

http://www.volnation.com/forum/tennessee-vols-basketball/121605-maymon-finished-team.html

Below are some comments from them that MU fans will appreciate.

--

It appeared on one occasion that Pearl was motioning for him to come to the huddle and he never moved. Will his dad have him transfer again after this season?

--

He won't play the post voluntarily, nor will his father let him. He's a shooting guard in their minds. I guarantee you his dad has already been talking to the coaching staff and delivering ultimatums.

--

You do realize that all the fuss about his grades and when they'd be posted and when they'd be final and when he'd be eligible was all about his dad pestering everyone, don't you?

--

Hes going to be 40 by the time he finds a team that lets him play on the perimeter. If he stays he could be a big part of our team. If not he will the age of senior by the time he sees the court somewhere else. If Maymon transfers than he is a fool.

--

Well, if his dad doesn't want him to play post, he'll have to get over it. He clearly doesn't have the skill set to play anything but post. I really like his 20% free throw shooting, as well.

--

I'm sorry but I can't support a player who is on scholarship and shooting 3/14 from the free throw line. Not only does his horrible form show a lack of practice on free throws, but it also shows a disregard for your team as well. I hope one of our coaches is currently working with him on correcting his form and helping him focus on making his free throws because he could be a valuable part of the Vols next year.

--

Who??????

I thought he was still at Marquette??? Is he on this team?

A couple of the posters that seemed more in the know said he didn't play because of a fever.  Probably the case, though they're still very critical of him.

A fever that has lasted 13 days?  If its that bad, why is he suiting up on the bench?  To get everyone else sick?

Also, when a player is sick, doesn't the coach clearly state that in his press conference?  That fact that only "in the know" posters know he has a fever suggests JMay was "told he has a fever and will be unable to play."

Didn't we once discuss the possibility of the Wall of Failure in a corridor inside the Al, with pictures of transfers who later regretted leaving MU?

I vote for ODB!  Leaving for UNLV the year before the final four.  We could have used him in 2003.

Side note ... Smith is keeping that MU to UNLV transfer road alive.

Found this on the other site about transfers.

Jay Bilas said this:

In 2008, there were 305 transfers in Division I.

2010 -- 472.

"Kids are getting dissatisfied because its more about me than it is the team".

"I don't think its a problem in college, I think the kids are that way when they get there. The college coaches are having to clean too much of it up. i think we've gotta do a better job with the grassroots of bringing the kids up in the game. There's too much of the AAU influence, not enough within the schools. I don't know how we get it back.

JMay would be making a big mistake if he transfers.

We have 8 returning scholarship players next year (assuming T Harris returns, as his dad has said he will, and Hopson returns)
1 PG (1 4* PG coming in)
2 SG (1 4* SG coming in)
3 SF
1 PF (not including JMay)
1 C

He would be in the rotation behind Tobias at the 4 by default.

He would have been getting significant rotation minutes at Marquette had he stayed.

Logic like this isnt in play when it comes to the Maymons.

The team has seemed to find itself following the departure of Reggie Smith. One less piece to deal with in the puzzle. Nothing against Reggie but it's only helped MU

Not sure he was ever meant to wear the blue and gold.
You heard it here first. Davante Gardner will be a Beast this year.

Don't we have room for another experienced point guard? Maybe we can get him to come back to Marquette.

Tenn. had a easy win at Miss. JMay wasn't in the box score again.

The fever continues

Add

Should we praise Buzz because Freshman JMay under Buzz looked much better than Sophomore JMay under Pearl?

Then again, we don't know what Sophomore JMay looks like because he never plays.

Tennessee rolled at Auburn tonight. Up by as many as 25 in the second half. Tobias Harris was limited with a twisted ankle as well. Result: Maymon got another DNP.

Not that it matters, except to him, I cannot believe what has happened to this prima donna. What is he 19 years old? Not playing at all, etc. Imagine what is going through his mind.

Just a sad situation.

Is he not playing because the team is trying to tell him to leave or has JMay essentially told the team he is leaving so they stopped playing him?

Funny incident in that game in the first half.  That punk that plays center for TN, Brian Williams, scores on a dunk, and the Auburn coach calls a TO.  Williams, who evidently thinks he just threw one from halfcourt to win the natl championship, starts yelling at the top of his lungs as he's walking off the court.  "You're my f'in b*t*h", over and over.  He comes over the huddle next to Maymon as they gather up, and Maymon looks at him like (what is your problem?).  JM was talking to him, but I couldn't tell what he was saying.  TV showed him for maybe 5 seconds, JM was still looking at him and talking when the TV turned away.
