Title: Theo John
Post by: WarriorInNYC on April 19, 2015, 09:50:28 AM
Saw Velasquez tweet out last night that Wojo just offered the 6'8" PF out of Minnesota, class of 2017.  I cant find a whole ton on him, but that he is 3 stars on rivals.  Anyone watch him play or know anything more?

I found this youtube highlight video that shows him stuffing Henry a couple times.

Minnesota offered.  Wisconsin is on him as well.

You can see in the video that baskets underneath will not be that easy for Ellenson.  Different game when everygbody on every team has size compared to high school, there is a learning
curve.  I believe he will be a good but not great power forward the first year.

Big kid, strong. Closer to 6'9" probably. Well built. Demonstrates potential to be an elite shotblocker. Hustles, rebounds, blocks shots. Moves well and can become a lot more than he already is - strong upside. Really like him. At a minimum, great competitor who will alter shots and rebound for you. He is a "big"... center/PF

His HS made it to the state title game this season.. lost, but great team. Their only loss of the year.

Henry had a big game against them at the TWolves shootout, but Theo did get a few blocks, as he usually does.

Last year was with Howard Pulley 16s... this year he's playing with the 17's... he is extremely important to their success in the EYBL this year.

I ran some advance stats calcs the other day for EYBL Session 1.... have Theo down for 117 Ortg, made 12/18 FG (no 3 attempts - he is a non-traditional, traditional big), 10% OR, 12% DR... 6.1% blk... got to the line 8 times.. 72% of his team's minutes... his ORtg far above anyone else on the team, but usage of 13%, %Shots of 12%.. Gary Trent getting the bulk of the offensive duties..

At any rate, I think his offense will continue to improve but taking the route of a more traditional (in the historic sense) big man... don't see him being a guy that will face up from 15. I think he understands who he is and can be... and there is a lovely upside.

Great player to be involved with at this juncture.

Edit: "elite" added before shotblocker

Thanks Jay Bee....sounds like he would be a nice replacement for Luke.

Wojo seems to be more active in MN then Buzz was..........Wojo gets Anim and is trying on Coffey and John.

Add his high school teammate, PG McKinley Wright,  to the mix in 2017.

Wright runs with Net Gain Sports who plays in the UAA league... and Trent Lockett's travel team back in the day.

Izzo has been on Theo John also. I wouldn't mind UW or MSU taking their time on offering

Just so happened to move into the (near) neighborhood recently... may swing through for the next game from Theo and Mr. Wright tomorrow night...

They beat DeLaSalle (Sacar's school) this weekend..have been hearing McKinley is starting to get a little beastly with it.. if I can find the camcorder maybe I'll take some video.. both are 2017's
