Title: Other Programs Recruiting News
Post by: Herman Cain on September 30, 2019, 04:23:44 PM
The Johnnies making solid progress under new Coach Anderson. Sign a couple of prospects that fit into Coaches style of play. Wusu is a teammate of recent commit Posh Alexander.  The Johnnies are in the running for big man Cliff Omoruyi  who will sign late.

Seems like the Big East continues to be focused on athletic physical players. MU definitely on that trend. .

Marquette recruiting Herman. Not Badgers. Not Johnnies.  Not in this thread....unless we are also recruiting that player.

Butler doing an excellent job on the recruiting trail as well. In addition to a solid 2020 class currently ranked 14th, they recently picked up their first 2021 commitment in local Indianapolis guard Jaden Taylor.  They feel that having  Taylor in the fold may help them recruit from a bumper crop of kids Indiana in 2021.  Seems like Lavall is loading up on guards.

MU's Big East opponents are definitely not sleeping on the job.

Are there people out there saying other coaches aren’t recruiting hard?

Thank you so much for the very relevant information to Marquette basketball's recruiting efforts.  I always know that when I'm scrolling through the MU recruiting thread because it's gone off topic and I see your username pop up I need to stop scrolling and read the post because it'll be a very on topic discussion.

I think having a thread for Big East conference rivals recruiting is a good idea.  Disappointed people are so strongly anti-Herman that we needed it to be hidden in the superbar.   :(

I mean, if we can keep him to at least only post about BE teams.   ::)

I agree with this. It's worth talking about.

Speaking of which...former MU target Andre Jackson picked UConn over Syracuse. The Orange were seen as heavy favorites for Jackson before his September visit to UConn. Jackson was also on the same City Rocks AAU program as Marquette's Symir Torrence. Wonder if conference affiliation played any role in this, as Jackson is from Albany.

I have to admit, Syracuse missing out on two big local recruits makes me feel good.  I too wondered if the connection had a hand in Jackson's commitment to UConn.

I don't think Syracuse had room for Symir as a 2019 reclass.  I'm not saying he wouldn't have chose Marquette anyway.

Didn't Symir originally commit to MU as a 2020 recruit while still considering reclassifying?

Yes but I think the option of transferring into the 2019 class was something that Symir wanted to keep open.

https://www.prepcircuit.com/news_article/show/980806

"Teams have offered him the option to go as a member of the class of 2019 or 2020. Torrence isn’t planning on deciding which class anytime soon.

“Right now, I am just focused more on high school basketball and the schools after me. I’m not really focused on deciding between 2019 or 2020 for right now.”

Putting this here just so we can avoid it in the real recruiting thread.  Sorry Herm, this one got away.
