Cadougan commits, rounds out 2009-'10 class

The Marquette Golden Eagles rounded out their 2009-'10 recruiting class in style on Monday, as they gained an oral commitment from Junior Cadougan, one of the fastest-rising point guard prospects in the nation.
Cadougan, a 6-foot-1, 210-pound Toronto native, averaged around 21 points, eight assists and three steals per game last season at Christian Life Center Academy in Humble, Texas before breaking his foot in December. He chose MU over Memphis and Wake Forest, and also had scholarship offers from Louisville, Tennessee, Kentucky, Texas and USC.
Cadougan entered the summer ranked as the 20th-best point guard in the nation in the class of 2009 but saw his stock rise dramatically after being named Top Playmaker at the prestigious NBPA Top 100 Camp in Charlottesville, Va. late last month. He was also rated as the 18th-best prospect in the camp overall by national recruiting expert Bob Gibbons.
Another member of the Golden Eagles' 2009-'10 class, Jeronne Maymon, also participated in the camp.
Cadougan, whose body type and game has been compared favorably to current Pittsburgh point guard Levance Fields and former Connecticut point guard Khalid El-Amin, is highly regarded for his strength, toughness and leadership on the court.
He moved from Toronto to Humble, located in suburban Houston, following his freshman year. He arrived as a highly decorated player, having at the age of 14 become the youngest player to be named to the U-17 Junior National Team in Canada, and played on the same team as former Texas A&M and current Los Angeles Clippers draft pick 7-footer DeAndre Jordan.
Cadougan visited Marquette late last month, and was said to have stood out in pickup games with other potential recruits and current MU players. He'll arrive on campus next summer as the odds-on favorite to replace Dominic James as the Golden Eagles' starting point guard.
Returnees Maurice Acker and David Cubillan also figure to be in the mix at the point, as does another incoming recruit, junior-college transfer Dwight Buycks.
He joins forwards Maymon and Erik Williams, Buycks and center Liam McMorrow (currently redshirting) in the Golden Eagles' class of 2009-'10.

He's gotten in great shape, so he's going to come to the point where he's focused on being the best player he can be and having the best body he can have.
"He doesn't want to be a regular, average guard. He wants to have a great career for the program and himself, and be an impact player in the Big East."

MU now has the USA covered from the Rio Grande to Toronto and NJ to MN. Just need a West coast guy in 2010 to round things out.

Well, it's tough not to feel excited about this verbal. Overall, the 09-10 class looks solid and well-rounded. Gotta give Buzz credit for looking ahead and getting the early commitments. It now allows him to focus on improving the players coming in for this coming year, and on the coaching that is still the big question mark about him.
Very excited indeed.

Junior Cadougan commits to Marquette

As reported first by Todd Rosiak of the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel (http://blogs.jsonline.com/muhoops/archive/2008/07/07/cadougan-commits-rounds-out-2009-10-class.aspx), Buzz Williams completed his 2009 freshman class today when highly regarded point guard Junior Cadougan from Humble, TX verbally committed to Marquette University. Cadougan, a 6'1" 195 pound point guard from Humble Christian Academy, committed to MU over Memphis and Wake Forest.
Cadougan, a Canadian native who moved to Houston after his freshman year of high school, was recently named the top playmaker at the NBPA Top 100 Camp and will participate in Reebok U this week in Philadelphia.
Cadougan rounds out a promising 2009 class which includes three RSCI top 100 players (http://www.muscoop.com/index.php?topic=9507.0), the first at Marquette since the Three Amigos. Cadougan (#70) will be joined by Erik Williams (#78) and Jeronne Maymon (#85) and soon-to-be redshirted Liam McMorrow as freshmen in 2009.

Obviously buzz is a stellar recruiter, this is a huge deal for our program. With the amount of tallent he's able to bring in we'll be ranked regardless of if he can coach.

Teal! Thats right, still a beginner, I'm proud to say I was one of few on this board that supported this hire from day one. I figured if he was able to land a top 25 class at Col. St. we'd be fine. He must be a special personality, no other way of explaining it.

Our Coach has been impressive so far. I enjoyed meeting him at the BBQ, and I really enjoy what he has done with the staff he hired first and foremost, and the results his team have landed so far - this is an impressive 3.5 months for Buzz!

Completely unrelated to anything else but Rosiak's article is not exactly correct. Cadougan didn't move from Toronto to Humble. He moved from Toronto to Stockbridge, Georgia for his freshman year. He then moved from Stockbridge to Humble after his freshman year when his first high school cut the basketball program.

That's not from people responding, that's just whatever automatic feed that Muscoop uses to generate the posts from Rosiak's blog. It looks like a new copy of the article must get added to RSS every time the original article is edited, so that generates multiple posts, which the mods then merge into the first one.
Looks like for this one, the edits were to add the quotes from Russell and a few minor corrections to weight and interest schools.

Correct. Todd usually edits his more important blog posts three or four times and they get added to MUScoop automatically. We then merge them to the original thread. Rather than delete the previous versions, we keep them around in the event that what was edited turns out to be significant.
