If Morsell has it, half the team must have it by now. Looking forward to the season getting derailed.

Thankfully have a week off. Just get thru tonight and get healthy. But nothing matters unless testing protocols change asap.
I would take the Rick SLU program right now.

Opportunity for Joplin, Ellis, Prosper…someone to step up and grab some PT.

So, Morsell was publicly in Covid protocol tonight. Why isn’t there more information on which specific players are testing positive for these teams that are forfeiting? It probably would have been the best move for our team not to play tonight if we didn’t have Darryl. Did Seton Hall really have 7+ players test positive for their game against St. John’s? Who were they? Seems odd to me.

Yup.

Hippaa violations everywhere if you talk about vaccination status or test results.

Well we played tonight and Morsell wasn't on the floor, so an explanation is needed.  When you're not playing because a huge chunk of the team isn't playing, there really isn't a need to know which guys.

Ellis didn't get to play, but Prosper and Joplin sure took advantage of their extended minutes. Long-term, Morsell being out for this game might turn out to have been a good thing for the program.

Wrong!  Why take an automatic loss in a winnable game?

What a terrible take. How much was gained with OMP and Joplin stepping up?    MU had basically an 8  man rotation against a beast of a team.   6 were freshmen or sophomores, depending on your interpretation.   They battled their asses off and didn't get over the hump.

Process.

False. It appears you don’t understand what Hippaa (sic) is and is not.

You are correct, JB. This is NOT a HIPAA issue any more than it would be for the team to announce he had a strained hamstring. There is more misinformation about HIPAA out there than there is about COVID.

They also didnt specifically say he has covid or tested positive. Might be a cold with an outstanding test result. This isn't close to a hippa violation. Teams report on injuries and this type of stuff all the time.

You might be correct on disclosing the reason for missing the game, but vaccination status is a big no-no. Violation bigtime.

Again not true. HIPAA applies only to disclosures by "covered entities" as defined in HIPAA...and the definition does NOT include schools, or coaches, etc. And even if the school was a covered entry (it isn't), they could still disclose with the player's authorization. HIPAA 101.

HIPAA is a convenient reason for not disclosing something people don't want to disclose, and most people buy iit even when it doesn't apply.

FERPA applies, not HIPPA. FERPA provides that educational institutions must keep “personally identifiable information” private. This includes medical info.

FERPA does apply....but when players sign, they (or their parent/guardian) gives permission to disclose medical information related to their ability to play. That's why we almost immediately knew the nature of Chris Otule's injuries, etc. Legally, COVID vax status is no different from a sprained ankle or dislocated shoulder.....
