For me it was always that he has never faced up to the basket. He seems to shoot with his body at an angle. Just by physical mechanics he turns every jump shot into an off-balance shot.

Something has gone wrong with JJJ's shot while at MU. Watch his HS highlight video.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=alVtQ1xQj9U

Pull-up at 0:22 and 1:06
Off a screen at 0:25 and 0:29 (possibly the best angle of his form)
Catch and shoot at 0:43, 0:55 and 1:00
Off the dribble at 0:51

His shot looks so much smoother and less twisted and herky-jerky. He pushed the ball a bit too much and needed to get that elbow in, but that form is not the same one that he's using today.

Look at this pic from the first game of the season.

He looks like he's trying so hard to get that elbow in that he's overcompensating and shooting across his body. A right-handed shooter shouldn't have the ball on the left side of his head when going up for a shot.

Overhauling your shooting form is not easy and takes a lot of time and effort, but his main issues appear to be fixable.

What was JJJ's 3 point % in high school?
