Title: Observations of Xavier game
Post by: muwar2003 on February 06, 2016, 01:08:43 PM
Hope Cohen transfers to GB,  Cheatham -human turnover machine,  No defense, too many turnovers,  can't stop anyone from driving and let too many guys open

We were excellent today. Too many turnovers, but hung with the #6 team in the country on their court. Anyone in blue and gold should be proud of this effort.

I hope your post goes away and you with it

An odd post. I thought Cohen played hard and cheatham played a heck of game.

So your observations are completely negative in a dog fight game against a top 5 team on the road?

I'm frustrated we don't have the horses to finish.

But this game was not a game to rattle off a bunch of negatives

Not sure what Cohen did so poorly but okay.

If Cheatham is a human turnover machine what is Duane?

Lost on the road to a top 5 team.  Shucks.

When you're making Hayward look like an optimist, you know you're off base.

Someone needs to let their disappointment simmer down a little before throwing frustration filled tantrums. Cheatham had one bad turnover at the end when X had momentum but without him this wouldn't have been a game. 21 points and played his heart out. Kindly shut your yap.

Hani was very upset on the bench as the game wound down.  Good for him.  I love a kid who hates to lose.  He'll demand continuing progress of himself.

Forget Hayward, he makes Kenosha look like Brew.

X shot 13/20 on threes. Hard to even make it a close game in those situations. They played hard and well. A couple things swing a different way and it's a huge win.

Seton hall was disgusting. Not this game.

I nominate this post for worst of the year. The kids finally play a complete game against a top 6 team on the road and you only see negatives!?

Great effort.  Only thing I saw for concern is that I don't think we had a single D stop under 3:30 (or maybe under 3).  Why not throw a zone, or a press?  We had so many good answers but couldn't buy a stop.

We did force jump shots though and they hit them. Davis also hit about a 17 foot floater. Not much you can do about that.

You are a clown.

Cheatham is one of the few guys on this squad that can run a 1 on 3 break and convert. That was a huge swing, and a heady play going after Blueitt.

The turnover at the end of the game was on JJJ. Cheatham has been handing off in that corner all game, and JJJ ran away as Cheatham was about to give it up. That’s not on him. That gives him 3 T/O’s for the game that were his fault. Far from a “turnover machine”. The kid is a freshman. Stop.

Not to take shots at players, since this team played a great game. But if you are going to talk about anyone who lacks defense or is a turnover machine, it’s Duane. Duane Wilson had 7 turnovers. As a 21 year old.

One of the bigger swings in this game was his lazy defense on Myles Davis' 3-Ball. He was sagging about 8 feet off of him on the three point line. Then when the pick came, rather than fighting through he took a flop. Left Davis WIDE open for an easy three. That was a big swing. Hate seeing anyone taking a flop in that situation. Duane also leads the team in taking block’s inside the circle. His defense is frustrating, being that it is his 3rd year in this program. Worst defender on this team.

I know his box score turned out nice – but his play hurt the team down the stretch. Right now, I view him as a somewhat rich-man’s Todd Mayo. Just maddening to watch his play sometimes.

Yeah, I mean they hit a lot of tough shots for sure.  Just saying I'd love to see some spark of D creativity that could be pulled out in situations like that - a press just to keep them out of their half court, a 1-3-1 ball trap high - just anything to disrupt the mo of a team at home riding toward a W.  But overall great game - but sometimes it's those little things on the margin that change a "good loss" to a W.

I am proud of the way the team played today. Gosh, they're playing # 6 away and they lead for a good portion of the game. Way too many turnovers but overall a good performance. Only complaint I had was with 52 seconds left we are dribbling instead of passing to find the open man

Agreed. Excellent job by him. Created at least 3-4 more possessions. Who gets the rebound on those ones ? Is it the guy would catches that tap or is it Luke ?

I had low expectations going in so the end result wasn't a complete shock.  I thought our Freshman handled themselves rather well all things considered.  MU's margin for error is so small they almost have to ply perfect to win a game like this.  For the most part they did, except when they kicked the ball around w/ 4 min left to play.  The process for this team to improve is slowly killing me on the inside though....

Other than Chief not shooting terribly well, he had 9 boards today. Hanie had 21 and was extremely aggressive. He got some bs fouls called against him which hurt and he goes out of control to the hoop sometimes but I'll take him on my team any day.

You on the other hand are the tool of the week.

The boys played hard and no shame in this loss. Very much enjoyed their effort and an exciting game.

Let's not forget many are Freshman and all have limited experience.

We played very well against a top 5 team. It is frustrating because they are good enough to beat a top 5 team. Their time will come when they stop dribbling off a foot, pass over a 6' 11" player or go into vapor lock at the end of a game. Wojo has done a good job with some very raw talent that has great potential.

Concerning Hanie your expectations are unrealistic. He will be an outstanding talent for this team in time. He already is a major contributor. Don't believe it, stay tuned. He shows progress almost every game.
