UCONN Basketball Sanctions handed down today
« on: February 22, 2011, 10:30:48 AM »
There is a 3 PM ET news conference in which the NCAA will be handing down penalties to the UCONN basketball program. Will this have any immediate effect, maybe for the game on Thursday?

From Sportscenter's Twitter:

BREAKING NEWS: NCAA Committee on Infractions to hold 3 ET news conference to hand down penalties to Connecticut men's basketball today

UCONN will be punished later today for “failing to promote an atmosphere of compliance”.  The punishment will not include a post season ban.

A couple funny analogies from Gary Parrish and Dan Wetzel on Twitter...

- Charles Manson cited for "failure to promote atmosphere of living."
- Miguel Cabrera cited for "failure to promote atmosphere of sobriety"

The NCAA continue to prove they don't give a rip about cheating.  The guy from K St, Drew, Calipari, every SEC football coach and Pitino are lighting up cigars with $100 bills today.

Agreed.  A joke of a punishment.

Oh, they care about cheating.  But only if you are Prairie View A&M, Hampton, or some other small school.  If you are a large institution with a big following?   Yea.... don't care.

It will be interesting to see how the Big East schedules UCONN's first three games next season.

Nah, I am sure they will allow Jimbo to spread it out.

2011-2012 DePaul
2012-2013 TCU
2013-2014 DePaul again

ESPN reports NCAA has upped the sanctions from those self imposed by the school, incl Calhoun.."failed to monitor the program and failed to create an atmosphere promoting rules compliance."...

This will mostly effect future years(3 years probation), and there are no post season bans.
