Pretty significant demotion for him, but we'll see if he treats it as such and goes the Enlund "punch the clock, pay the bills" route. If memory serves, Hunt wasn't half-bad on the Bucks beat before he took over as general columnist.

In before someone made the obligatory joke about the name "Michael Hunt".

Are we sure it's a demotion? Or will he being continuing his column AND covering MU? It seems pretty evidence the J-S doesn't, and maybe never has, viewed the MU beat as a full-time gig. And newspapers are trying to make do with less staff these days.
-
Be interesting to see how Mr. Hunt writes about MU on a regular basis and not on just the days he feels like bashing them.
Damnation by faint praise seems to have been his favorite writing technique with regard to all things MU.

From what I've heard, he's losing the column for good. He'll be the MU beat reporter during basketball season, and do general sports reporting in Marquette's offseason.

I flat out emaile hunt a few years ago about a marq article he wrote...he responded that it wasn't his job to be a "fan" (which is true). So take him or leave him, it's not always gonna be positives from his guy. Personally I can't stand the guy; I've never read an original thought from the guy; typical smaller market guy that just gives his readers the same junk the national outlets have already chimed in on-
-
We'll see if he can deliver. Disappointing that Wolfley isn't going to be the beat writer since his last few articles have been excellent, though I understand he's already got more than enough on his plate.
-
As a columnist Michael Hunt seemed over his head but I always liked him as a Bucks beat man. He'll be fine. MU only hit the local columnists radar when:
Really, really Big UW Game
Deep NCAA Run
Police Blotter
(Maybe) Cracks Top 5 in polls
It's mostly our own fault that only #3 applies recently.
-
As bad as he is it might be improvement.
-
Rosiak did a fine job covering MU and, as a result, moved on to the Brewers. Hopefully, the MJS can retire what is left of their fossils and get more folks like Rosiak who want to do well.
MU will never keep a good one for more than a few years, but it is a good place for a young reporter to cut their teeth.
I am not too familiar with Hunt as a beat reporter, but as a columnist, he was a typical put the finger in the air and see where the wind is blowing type of columnist. Never really did anything provocative or insightful.

ick. he sucks.
-
Marquette Broad,
What's the joke you're referring to?
-
Wiz
Of course he is terrible but at least knows we have a program. Who knows maybe he changes his ways after getting demoted. He has always been anti Warriors and he might need to stroke us off to keep the gig.
-
Never been a fan of Hunt. One more sign the JS is having to do more with less.

Mike Hunt. Heh

I hope he remembers to stop, drop and roll.

It'd be better if he used the fire hose, so Mike Hunt would be all wet.

I remember when MJS tried to do a video section with him online. It wasn't very pretty. It's like they pulled some bloke out of a bar in Cudahy....

Wasn't that when he told the world that Prince was his favorite artist? :(

Has anyone seen Mike Hunt? Anyone? Please.
-
Does he still have his 70's perm?
-
Why don't you guys give him a break? Given newspapers these days, we are honestly lucky to have anyone dedicated to covering us. Thy are getting laid off in droves across the country and have been for years...
Also, does DePaul have a college bb reporter dedicated to them from either the Trib or Suntimes?... I don't think they do. Or Illinois or Northwestern? No, they have roving reporters who also come up to Marquette for games occasionally.
Consider ourselves lucky to have someone dedicated to us.

Michael Hunt was a fantastic reporter and writer during his days on the Bucks beat. He blew Enlund out of the water. He might not work as hard as Rosiak, but the stories will be written just as well, if not better. He knows basketball, maybe not the college game as well as the pro, but he'll do a good job with the beat.
As for someone before saying Bob Wolfley has "too much on his plate," I'm not sure when Wolfley's ever done a story that required him to leave his couch. Hunt has been in locker rooms and clubhouses for the past 20 years.
Marquette fans could do a whole lot worse.

Was in a meeting today with Richard Beaver. True story!
-
I don't know why, but this guy makes me think of Mike Hunt:

sans the perm, of course.

Does he still have his 70's perm?
His perm is on Mike Hunt. :)

His perm is on Mike Hunt. :)
Of course, what else would catch fire on Mike Hunt?

Another good reason to visit the electrologist.

Hunt was an excellent reporter when covering the Bucks and is a very good writer.
If he doesn't phone it in -- and I'm saying here that he's too professional to do so -- he will do a nice job covering The Gold.
-
I continue to be amazed by what a schlub this guy is.

What's amazing about that picture? When Mike Hunt is clean-shaven and smiling, that's when I'm amazed. Otherwise, disheveled and frizzy is how one should expect Mike Hunt to look.

Now that we have had a year or more of Mike Hunt, are you still sticking by your man '82?

Welcome aboard Michael. Looking forward to reading your stuff.
