Xavier Chicagoland game watching party?
« on: January 10, 2023, 08:21:10 AM »
The other poster inspired me to try to make a game watching party for my area (Chicago Near West Suburbs)

Would there be any interest? I'd be hoping for 10+ people ideally to maybe organize a beer special. It'd be in a bar in Forest Park or Oak Park.

Great, we're at a solid 3 attendees! If we get to like 6 or so I'll give O'Sullivans, Kettlestrings or Ale House a call to ensure sound.

Casual publicity bump since the alumni office isn't returning my voicemail or email to publicize it.

I have a reservation for 10-20 people at O'Sullivans in Forest Park that I hope to expand rather than cancel. Between me, my wife, a local friend and Legs that makes four.

so anyone else in the near west burbs, or whoever else that wants to come by then by all means please do!

I'll probably wander over to Commonwealth with the wife on Saturday. I have dinner at Next the night before, though, so I may be out of commission.

Whoot! Heard from the alumni office so it's actually going to get some real publicity this week as well.

I'm pretty sure, the Marquette Alumni website has a page to list a game watch party and they will post if approved.

They do, they promised they'd post it on social media and such as well. Apparently this pub is hosting the National Marquette Day party as well so they're happy I chose them.

Might join you on Sunday. Still doing dry January though so 50/50.

Enjoy Next! That Paris program sounds amazing.

The early 1900s Paris menu does sound awesome, maybe I should've reached out to Grant Achatz to host the party at Next lol

Jake

I skipped the game last night because of Dry January and it sucked. Bad enough not drinking but missing the game made it worse. Thinking about giving myself the day off on Sunday at hitting Goolsby's.

Can people really not go to a bar (and especially a sports arena) and not have a drink?  Especially a bar where you can get good food?  Go and drink some cranberry juice for goodness sake.

The bottled water was especially fresh last night at Fiserv. Although, I did break dry January with a celebratory night cap at home. Felt it was worth it and much cheaper than a Fiserv beer.

Sorry to hear. Goolsby's sounds like it's gonna be a raucous time! I had a blast at the game last night. I occasionally like an NA beer during the dry out periods and wanted something to fidget with during the 2H, so I tried to drink a Bud Zero at the game. Do not recommend. That stuff is terrible. It's existence is an affront to all things good.

Wish they had something NA at the craft brewer booths--an Athletic would have been nice. Heck, Untitled Art Italian Pilsner is a flavorful local craft NA beer. It'd help me justify laying out a few bucks for it at the game for when I have to drive back but want a beverage that isn't a soda or something.

On January 1, I gave some thought toward a Dry January. By January 6, those thoughts just went away.

Did dry January last year after a raucous December and November. But two weeks of the flu this Christmas season made me think i didn't need it this year.

For those looking for a N/A option you can't beat Lagunitas Hop Water. I drink it even on non dry out periods. Has anyone tried any of the zero proof spirits? Curious how real they taste.

I've two brands of zero proof spirits

Aquafina and Dasani... both italian products.  Best part is that you can get them everywhere!

Nothing beats a Dasani gimlet on a hot day.

Most are...not great. The wife and I didn't like the Ritual stuff at all--not very accurate of what they are trying to be. I've largely just stayed away after that experience and stuck to NA beers. Seems to be a lot of hype on that Spiritless Kentucky 74, so that might be on the short list.

Agree on Hop Water. It's really good. Add some bitters can be a really nice switchup too (sorry for derailing your thread)

FRY January sounds WAY better than DRY January, just sayin.
