Random thought popped into my head after the JFB thread, and I thought a good non-threating poll would be in order for a Friday so close to the season.
Who is your favorite MU player currently in the NBA. I generated the list from the basketball reference website so it is based on current contracts for 2014 and what they classify as "in the NBA". Also the poll is intended as who is your current favorite, not who was your favorite while at Marquette. Curious to see who ends up the winner.
I blanked out the results until you vote because I don't want any bias...this is scientific man!
-
Favorite player during his time at MU who is currently in the NBA: Wade
Favorite former MU player currently in the NBA: JFB
-
Don't consider blue or DJO or Buycks (anymore) still in the NBA so I say Jimmy though if jimmy wasn't on the Bulls itd probs be Wes
-
I don't really care what the criteria are as far as "in the nba." It's more fun to have a bigger list anyways. So, let's not argue who is or isn't.
JFB. Hands down.
-
Buncha FIBs in here.
-
I know he isn't a player anymore, but what about Doc? He is in the NBA, and seems to be universally liked. Would someone have picked him instead of those listed?
-
Does the NBDL/Toddler count?
-
DWade hands down. Best thing that happened to Marquette in the past 30+ years, plus he earned himself a couple of rings.

DWade has three. Got one on his own without LeBron, while LeBron has never won a ring without Wade. Hope that remains a fact for eternity. Wade's legacy will only be greater if so!

He's such an unlikable NBA player though.

Yeah, like half of MU, and just like the guy that is clearly the best player on this list. It is the damn cheese mongers with their badger obsession that makes this place so weird.

While I agree there is a clear Bulls bias in the voting, I don't think there is any way that Jimmy is a better player now than Wesley. Right now Wesley is the best player on the list. JFB is my favorite(and I hate all Chicago sports....you people are the worst) because of the way he plays, his subtle swag, and my favorite nickname ever.
-
While not in the NBA anymore, Buycks was a favorite of mine. MKE kid, longest of the long shots to make it to the Association.
-
This is tough for me. I love JFB, but dislike the Bulls.
Voted Wes as he was also one of my favorites while I went to school and had a class with him freshman year. Great guy and awesome player.
-

I don't dislike him one iota.
-
I don't dislike him one iota.
Me neither. Favorite baller ever in his prime, followed by Olajuwon, Ray Allen, then any former MU player.
-
I don't dislike him one iota.
+1
I feel like a lot of the dislike towards D Wade, is simply due to Lebron.

After yesterday he just might be better now. Two days ago I would've agreed with you. Also Boston fans are much worse than us in Chicago the entitlement to winning out there is insane

Maybe I am misinterpreting what you are inferring, but if you think Wesley is better than DWade even now you are crazy. DWade is not what he was, but is still far and away more skilled than Wes. Not hating on Wes, just stating the facts.
-
I cheer for all the MU guys above any NBA team, but Wade is a cut above. I was a Senior in 2003 so I got to experience two years of Wade's magic. His 2006 NBA Finals performance was 2nd best I've seen behind Jordan's ridiculous 41 ppg Finals in 1993 against the Suns. By game 5, I was telling my buddies what plays Miami would run---get the ball to Wade and get the F*** out of the way!

Really, When was the last time Wes got compared to Michael Jordan by one of Michael's former teammates?

Disagree a ton. From someone who had zero connection with MU before being a freshman in 2011-12 watching him play in the NBA was awful. He was as bad as LeBron with the complaining and flopping before LeBron got there. I understand why people who were connected with MU long before I was love him so much but still just not a fan.

Da Bulls. ;D

So seat of the pants hyperbola counts as proof now?
-

Agree 100%. All the NBA guys work their tails off, but Buycks went above and beyond to get his shot. I was absolutely thrilled when I heard he signed a guaranteed contract. Would have loved to see him stick longer...but Valencia isn't such a bad place to make a living.
-
Gotta love coming to conclusions based on one NBA preseason game! Chicago sports fans, baby.
-

What does plane geometry have to do with this?
-
Jimmy got my vote, but Wes is a very close second.

Scoop had Buzz cutting Jimmy's schollie his sophomore year.

So a know-nothing yahoo -- a guy MJ had zero respect for, BTW -- uses a preseason game to compare a role player with the greatest hoopster ever. Ugh.
And not to diminish Jimmy's game-winner -- because it was a great shot -- but the Bulls were only in position to win because Thibs put the starters back in in the fourth quarter against Atlanta's scrubs.

Very true, however, Budenholzer had some starters in there as well. Thibs only put starters JFB, Noah and Gasol with six minutes to go...And the "scrubs" included Brand, Payne and starter Shroeder. JFB scored 20 in 6.
To the point, Thibs let Jimmy take over at the end...ran plays for him, asked him to take over defensively. By my count, of the ten players for most of the 4th, JFB was the 8th highest paid. Here is the understory: Thibs, well known to hate Bulls management, was sending a message to the ownership and some certain star players. Fact is, Noah and Butler are the only two players Thibs trusts and maybe Captain Kirk. Thibs just earned Jimmy a big contract last night.

Lax Brah,
Did you even read his post before typing such an idiotic response?

I didn't know Thibs had such disdain for Bulls management, so I learned something here. I'm 4+ removed from living in Chicago, so I don't follow the teams there nearly as closely as I once did. Makes me like Thibs more!

Yep...Gar and John like to overmanage their coach. Jimmy has a window till the end of October to resign or he is a FA. Thibs taking care not of JFB...while tweeking Rose and the brain trust. He has talked up Jimmy in every presser while downplaying Derek. Master motivator and mind fooker. Us vs. Them

Gar vs. Thibs..a bit old as Jerry settled them down but a lot going on under the surface still. Derek is a mess, IMO.
-
Thibs vs. Gar/Pax has potential for great theater but it's hard to imagine it ever being as much fun as fun as Phil vs. Crumbs.
The last couple years he was in Chicago, Jackson used to publicly rip Krause at every opportunity.
And let's not forget that Pax, whom I used to consider a good guy, did rough up Vinny once.

As a player, d wade. Hands down.
As a person, Wes. Not that d wade isn't a good person, I just love Wes. High quality human being.
-
Buncha FIBs in here.
Lotsa friendly Illinois brethren.
-
JFB hands down. Ever since I saw him leaving Humphrey to go skateboarding in purple skinny jeans, I was all like "this dude is going places."
-

This.
Wes kept it real.
Jimmy would be a really close second cuz keepin' it real means singing Miley Cyrus when the video crew is on and not caring what others think.

Yeah. Stupid FIBs. I mean, really smart wisconsin people would never make sweeping conclusions based off preseason games, or even worse, an intrasquad scrimmage.
-

I'm guessing it's the FIBs who are doing that. On top of that I have not heard any Marquette fans saying we have someone as good as Wade (the MJ of MU).
-
Anyone that didn't vote for Dwade is wrong. He single handy put Marquette back on the map.
If we could separate the two somehow, I'd even say that Dwade > Final Four
-
It has to be D-Wade
like him or hate him (mostly bulls fans) D-Wade is going to be an OTHOF. In this day and age this is extremely rare. Currently, Kobe, and Dirk are the only other OTHOFs I can think of.
-

So, if my favorite MU player in the NBA isn't Wade, I'm wrong? I voted for Crowder. I have no illusions that he is the best player to come out of Marquette, I just really liked the way he played while at MU and am impressed that a 6'4" guy with PF skills and not tremendous bulk even has a job in the NBA, so he's my favorite.
If the question is who was the most influential Marquette player in the NBA, then you would be wrong if you didn't pick Wade. But anyone can be your personal favorite.

Tim Duncan.
Staying with one team is some strange criteria. Was John Stockton somehow better than Karl Malone? Were the careers of Patrick Ewing and Hakeem devalued because they didn't stay where they were drafted? Is Reggie Miller better than Kareem
-
Eh, not worth it.
-
Wade and simply because his talent level was something never seen before at MU. Watching him play at MU and for Heat, especially early in his career, was something to see. Remember watching SportsCenter and he was top ten play of the day almost daily for the Heat. Best part was many of those plays were on D side of the ball or unreal pass.
Am a big Wes fan and JFB is hard not to cheer for. Truthfully, it is hard to cheer against any of them.
-
I watch and enjoy Wes, Jimmy and Novak more than Wade.
I just expect Wade to be good, and he is. Watching those three try to get better is more fun.

No it does not a make one better, it is just a unique thing that does not happen in this day in age
I think moving to a better job is great, but their is something to be said about loyalty

I concur. Plus, Wade ultimately does more for MU than any of the other guys. He has won 3 rings, is a sure fire Hall of Famer, which means he will be relevant to the "everyday basketball" fan for decades to come. Love Wes, but he won't have that impact outside of a smaller geographic area. He'll be remembered like most players in towns where they remember the guy fondly as a nice player, good dude, but not as a national level player. Wade got to a point where people took sides with him, mostly because he played with LeBron, but he was talked about all the time and the halo effect for MU is always a good thing.
-
Do all NBA teams announce the college the starting players are from or just Chicago? Cause it's pretty cool that people on Miami and Portland are gonna look up MU after hearing Wade or Wes's names... I think it's fair to say that the majority of Chicago has a rough idea about marquette when it's announced for jimmy.
