This poll is intended to get a pulse on what a majority of scoopers feel is the best option for the rest of the year. Do we start developing Duane and see if he's the man for the job going forward? Or do you feel Derrick has earned the right to finish his career as the starting PG for our great university?
I am in favor of giving Duane the reigns. Personally, I feel it's a lost season when we don't make the tournament. I don't think this years team is going to make it, barring an unforeseen run in the BEast tourney. I would like to build for the future and see what we have. I would sacrifice a win or two this year in order to find out, as I really could care less what our record is if we aren't going dancing.

Just want to see what the numbers say Sultan. It's hard to get an idea on what the majority wants through a couple people going back and forth.

No thanks

Holy freaking hell, how much of this bs do we need?
-
The future is now.
Duane.
I respect Derrick's seniority but we're still playing 4 on 5 with him out there.
-
Winning is contagious. I don't care if we were 0-fer on the season, you play to win every game. There is no lottery for the best recruits in college basketball. Winning never hurts anything.

That is a scene from the music video of Rise Against's "Make It Stop." One of the most inspiring music videos I have seen in the modern era. Fantastic song and powerful message
As for the topic. I wouldn't mind Duane getting a few minutes at point a game. If it works, give him a few more. If it works consistantly over several games, then give him the keys. If it doesn't work, Derrick keeps the keys but keep giving Duane some short stints. I wouldn't surprise if Wojo was already trying Duane at the point in practice.
-
Best starting lineup for next year:
PG: Noskowiak
2G: Cheatham
SF: Wally E
PF: Henry E
C : Heldt
Scoopers love the new toys.

Thanks for sharing the source of the pic. The music video's title make Sultan's ingenious use of that pic more apparent.

Didn't even make the connection. I don't know if Sultan was going for that, but if he was, bravo! That was some meta-level sh*t

Is it too late to add Wojo and Diener to the poll?

Yes I am intentionally trying to threadjack since.....this power should be used for good not evil.
Glad you posted this, Rise Against has some great music....don't always agree with their message but they have to be the smartest "mainstream" band in recognizing that they can deliver good music that is trying to say something intelligent.
And I can't get enough metas#$t, lets keep going down the rabbit hole

You are too much.
I guess the last two staffs at MU were idiots too?
Your high school basketball pedigree clearly makes you an expert and better able to see these things.
You should really get into coaching (or better yet a player/coach)...you could be winning NBA titles next season...all you'd have to do is draft Newbill and you'd be on your way to building a dynasty.
You really ought to think about it.

Absolutely a kick a*s band. And this is coming from an old fart who was buying LPs before many of you pups were born. Great music is great music, anytime and any era.

This is the music video mentioned earlier in the thread. Still gives me goosebumps when I watch. I openly admit that I cried the first time I watched it. It's an issue that has unfortunately impacted my life.
From a pure music perspective, I am partial to "Savior." Music video is a little odd but the song itself is just fantastic

Glow, muENG, Sultan? Any favorites?

Savior is ALWAYS in a race mix for me regardless of distance. As is I Don't Want to Be Here Anymore. Collapse and Audience of One are very solid as well. Digging Tragedy + Time right now.
I want to like Hero of War but I just can't get behind it from a message standpoint(at least the way I interpret it)

And the 2 men who are paid (literally) millions of dollars to make these decisions, and who put those millions of dollars on the line every time they trot out a starting lineup for their team. You'd know better, though. Those idiots.

Two highly trained coaching staffs thought Derrick should start. Idiots. One of those coaching staffs has more high-major PG experience than any other coaching staff I have ever heard tell of. Morons who fell for such things as hard work and leadership over flashy crossovers. The small sub-set of hardcore MU fans who frequent this board should start. Idiots. Or clowns. Or adversaries. I feels sorry for those close to you.

Can you and your other buddies please get a different argument. Do head coaches ever get it wrong on player evaluations? How many cases do you see where a veteran goes down via injury, and the younger player steps in and becomes a star and a better option? Brett Farve? Tom Brady? Countless other examples.
At the end of the day last year's team GREATLY underperformed expectations, and every single change was attempted other than one. And we missed the NIT with 3 NBA D-league caliber players. LOL
This year we have the same faction pleading how Wojo has such a tough situation inherited, no talent, yet has a roster of 7, Top 100 guys - and people want to suggest we shouldn't be any good. Ridiculous.

Are you *still* thinking that the point guard that recently transferred to Liberty-f*ckin'-University was the answer last year? Unreal.

In addition to Buzz and staff feeling that Derrick is the best option at point, we now have Wojo and his staff full of PGs evaluating the talent and coming up with the same conclusion. It's not just two head coaches. At the end of the day, yes...the head coach makes the final decisions. But figuring out who to play, especially as a first year head coach? You don't think Wojo gets input from the rest of his staff on who should be playing? I'd venture a guess that most, if not all of the current staff, feel like DeWil is the best option we've got.
-

The team's record speaks for itself. As do the players stats. Agree to disagree. We missed the NIT last year. It wasn't going to get worse..for the 1,000th time. LOL.

Just because someone plays at a lower tier, doesn't mean they couldnt do a better job. I would take Keifer Sykes all day over Derrick and he plays for UWGB. I think the good news for everyone, is that Derrick has 12 more games and then we can all turn the page!

Of course the difference is that Dawson dropped DOWN to that level. Whereas if Sykes wanted to transfer, he would have all sorts of suitors to move UP to this level.
Completely different.

Yeah...because he violated his probation and was kicked off the team. Pretty sure that analogy doesn't really apply here.

And of course Sykes got massive playing time from the drop - 29.2 minutes per game as a freshman - to build a resume.
Furthermore Dawson had options at Texas Tech, Colorado, Wyoming - even with such a limited "resume" as far as what he could point to in the way of production/opportunity.
He chose Liberty as there is 100% certainty that he'll get MAX minutes from the start, and after what he endured last year and this year - can you blame him for wanting to go somewhere and know 100% confident he'll play a ton?
-

Apparently I have to use teal with you.

Apparently I have to use teal with you.
Fair enough ;)
These days have had enough back-and-forth that I think I'm in desperate need of some teal :D
-
Right. Dawson didn't choose Texas Tech and Wyoming because he would be a back up. Just like here. Very simple. There isn't a great record of players transferring down a level for playing time reasons and then performing at such a high level that the original school regrets it. I doubt MU will miss him but I wish him nothing but success.
-

Perhaps he would be a back up, maybe he wouldn't. But, given what his first 1.5 years were in college - have no doubt you or anyone else with D-1 talent would be chomping at the bit to play in games on a regular basis.
-
Alotta these assumptions are wrong, both schools (Wyoming and Texas Tech) didn't have a Scholarship available until the latter part the year and he wanted start school in January (which he did at Liberty)... Murray State, Colorado, Texas Tech or Hawaii all schools who called had the same situation no scholie... He's happy to play for a team and coach who wanted him. So it is what it is.

So two major conference teams expressed an interest in him, but only if he came without a scholarship.

You sure Dale Layer will be there to want him? Liberty is just brutally awful in the Big South. Layer is not getting the job done there. For a school looking to upgrade conferences, I highly doubt he makes it to next season with this record this far into his burn.
