Looks like the Original Pancake House was too good to pass up? Did Bruce tamper with Jeronne?

Good luck to him. A good kid with an overbearing father. Good for him that his dad is far away because UT will not run the offense through him for one day or one practice for as long as he is there for.

What makes you think Tim will stay in Madison?  He and Torrell Harris (Tobias' father) should become good friends. Have fun with that Bruce.

Its a very grey area. If a player transfers, there is a VERY good chance he has discussions with other coaches prior to making the transfer. In fact, it is often said that...You dont announce that you are going to transfer without having something else lined up.

Let's get this clear once for all. Jeronne and his entourage were asked to leave MU. Tim, never in his wildest dream, thought the university would bend over and blown him a kiss.

Hmmm. This was posted on Goodman's blog:

"Marquette transfer Jeronne Maymon was considering Tennessee, but the holdup may be that the Vols don't have a scholarship right now and he'd have to pay his own way for the rest of the year."

EDIT: I don't know which article was posted first...I cannot read the Insiders' article.

From the K-State reporter from 810AM Kansas City-

If you heard Maymon to Tennessee - his dad just told me by text: "You know something I don't." http://ow.ly/WiY4

Personally, I think Timmy is trying to string out the coverage. Similar to his quote to the Madison TV station about not knowing of Jeronne quitting.

It's the "Waffle House".  Waffle Houses are pretty much greasy spoons located off of most interstate exits down here.  Good luck to Jeronne.  Let see how his expectations and reality line up in Tennessee.

I wish you, and others, would knock it off with the idiotic comments.  You just sound bitter.

It wasn't working out for Jeronne here and I'm happy that he found a place that he feels will work better for him.  Best of luck Jeronne, we barely knew ye.

I realize willie was talking about Tim.  Tim has no bearing on our program and just happens to be the father of one of our former players.  Sniping at the guy is juvenile, especially when you're just "feeding the troll."  If you stop feeding the troll and more often than not the troll goes away.

Why would Pearl be desperate?  He has plenty of job security and just beat the #1 team in the country.

I'd think JM is an upgrade to the UT roster, especially if he learned a lesson (he'll play where he's supposed to play)

Deep enough to beat Kansas.

While they lost quite a bit of talent, you wonder if this will strengthen the bond of the current team.  And if I had to guess, I bet at least 2 of those guys are back by March.  Tyler Smith of course not being one of them, obviously.

It isn't.

They started the year with 11 scholarship players.  Emmanuel Negedu collapsed during training and had heart surgery that ended his career.  That put them down to 10.  With the 4 that were arrested they are down to 6 scholarship players at the moment.

They have 3 walk ons that will play big minutes, one of whom is Pearl's son.  The other two are non traditional walk ons.  Skylar McBee had offers from East Carolina, Santa Clara and couple other places but chose to walk on at UT.  Josh Bone is the other, he was actually a scholarship player at Southern Illinois who transferred to UT a two years ago.

"Tim has no bearing on our program" may now be true, but it was not when Jeronne was here.

Since you are upset about my comment about Tim. at least be consistent and condemn all the others that have made comments about Tim. Or is it that you do not have a sense of humor?

I don't get upset by what's posted by an anonymous fool on the internet :P

How would I condemn everyone hating on Tim?  I'm not going to quote every single person doing it.  I assumed that using your post as an example and stating my opinion would sufficed.  There's no need for me to spam the boards with the same comment over and over.

Aye, Aye, Aye...The further this goes along, the more I fear this kid's idiot father may have permanently screwed up his life. In other words, he had no offers, and Bruce gave him the opportunity to come in and earn one. I pray he has learned a lesson...keep the old man as far away from Knoxville as possible. There aren't going to be any more chances.

Unless the response is overwhelmingly "good luck" than I don't think there is one positive that could come out of it.

I didn't vote because I was looking for a third option.  I wish him luck, but I do hope that someday he regrets his decision.  I want nothing but the best for the kid (and I really feel sorry for him), but I do hope that some day he realizes that he had a great opportunity to be at Marquette and missed out on it.  This is not the same as saying I want him to fail.

I believe that's the ODB option.  He certainly didn't fail at UNLV, but reportedly did later say that it was a mistake to leave Marquette.

I imagine Pearl will have a few duckets left over from his alimony payments so Jeronne will be fine but the curiosity is getting me.

I voted the ODB option and don't feel bad about it at all.  It's about loyalty, commitment, accountability, WARRIOR pride...any number of things that used to be important.  Throw in Timmay, the deception, the shouting orders to your coach and the school paying for your education and the choice is easy.

It's a whole lot less about wanting him to fail than understanding what you need to respect and appreciate in the first place before setting yourself up to fail.  It kinda reminds me of trying to make a point with your kids.

I also blame this on his father .. but if, say, JMay succeeds wildly at UT -- especially that first season -- then TMay will have made the exact right move for his son, and will be vindicated.

I can't believe this board is tied in this poll.  Really you want this kid to fail?  Really?  Did him leaving the MU team the way he did affect you so negatively you wish this kid ill will in his life?

Kinda sad 'Scoopers.
There's not really a negative "I hope he fails" option.  ODB didn't fail.  He did well at UNLV. he's playing professionally in France.  He just regretted his decision to leave Marquette.

There's a big difference between hoping JM's career is similar to ODB's and wishing him ill will.

Indeed .. the "Wish him Luck" option is really "Wish that his wishes are fulfilled .. he has a great college career followed by the NBA dreams of his father."

The ODB option is the "no ill-will, yet I don't want to see him .. highly achieve for a different team then go to the NBA"

If anyone is naive enought to believe Maymon is paying his own freight this semester, you just don't understand bigtime college athletics.
UT didn't have a scholarship available, so Jeronne will receive enough "need-based financial aid" to cover this semester's tuition, room and board, and books. He will get a basketball scholarship at semester's end.

That was my vote that put "Wish him luck" over the top! (temporarily)  Maybe every vote DOES count!

Not naive, but it can be against NCAA rules.  But I'm sure UT has it down pat.  :D

He will have to file a FAFSA form to see if he can get some $$

Of course he'll have to file a FAFSA form. Obviously, a family's financial affairs is their own business, but inquisitive minds could speculate that the Maymons may qualify for 100% need to attend UT. Therefore, the university's financial aid office would extend an offer to cover the need as they would for any other non-athlete they admit.
The Ivies don't have athletic scholarships. But, as you may know grants-in-aid are frequently a component of an athlete's financial aid package, even if need has not been demonstrated.

That is correct....in fact I have a young man working for me now that is a Penn graduate and was a student athlete.  Another that is a Yale graduate that competed in fencing.

But, where it gets tricky is offering some kind of aid to student athletes to work around scholarships.  It's mostly an issue with football but can crop up in hoops as well.  Basically the NCAA wants to avoid a school having 12 scholarship players and then 3 guys as walk ons with 100% financial aid when they should be on a full scholarship at another institution.

By the way, is it true JM is a walkon and not on scholarship?  Did I read that correctly?

Tim is busy right now.  He is jumping around like a crazed animal by the Tenn bench - no kidding.  J-May is on the bench.  Tenn is losing to Ole Miss at home... they must not be playing the right way.

Watching the game, I saw some dude in the first row by Tenn's bench, jumping around like his pants were on fire in and for a split second thought, 'wtf is going on with that guy?!'... then it hit me.. there's Timmay!... and normal behavior, for him.  For J-May's sake, I hope pops stays out of his business (and out of Pearl's face).
Thanks for ruining summer, Canada.

But Chico, you see, is working for a Wisconsin grad. There is a pecking order in life and the view from Madison is mighty fine. Mighty fine, indeed.
