What is reasonable to expect of DJO?
« on: January 07, 2011, 01:50:25 PM »
We can't expect 29 points and 5-8 3PT every game, but we also need more than some of the dismal numbers he has put up in other games. What is reasonable to expect of him on a consistent basis? Perhaps more importantly, what do we need from him to get to 10-11 conference wins and get us in the dance? He seems to be the biggest X factor at this point.

We need him to have productive offensive sets. handle the ball well, take good shots, get open, be a pest in the lane. I would say that DJO will average around 15 or 16 a game in the BE.

i think we can expect 2-3 out of control spin moves in the lane per game that result in turnovers.

I say that in jest...I think DJO is a really nice young player and does a number of things really well.  The spin move in the lane tho needs to be dropped from the bag of tricks...great open court move in the lane with little space ..... not so much

southside i agree but i am talking raw statistics in terms of offensive production...anyone have a statistical analysis of wha we need from DJO going forward to make it? using win credits, offensive efficiency or something like that

A lot of it depends on who else is scoring.  Is Buycks healthy?  Are Crowder and Butler scoring?   Is Blue contributing?   He is the one player who can heat up and go on a scoring binge on a regular basis.  Sure, Crowder did it once, but when DJO finds his groove in the offense, not forcing, just taking open shots and getting in the lane when the defender closes out of control, he is our top scorer.  And I am one of those who believes that if he had found his stroke against Duke, Gonzaga, and Wisconsin, we win at least two of those games.    Having said all that, I think he averages high teens this year with most games over 20 but a couple of real stinkers thrown in to bring his average to around 18-19.

We would have won 2 of those 3 games forsure with DJO having his stroke. All I expect from him is to be consistent for full games. None of this score 12 pts in 2 minutes and then not shoot for another 7 minutes. Last year he did it alot as well.

I don't if hes on fire or not feeling it that certain game, I want him shooting any chance he gets. No being hesitant. Id much rather lose a game by a few pts because Darius our best shooter was up there trying to do what he does but just didnt have it going, rather than lose by a few points because our best shooter missed a couple of shots and decided it was best to stop shooting. No what ifs. Just shoot and see what happens.

What I'm most encouraged about by DJO's recent performances is that he has been doing a lot better with deciding to just take a pull up jumper from 8-14 feet, after he beats his guy off the bounce - instead of getting himself into the trouble that we saw earlier from overpenetrating and trying to get all the way to the rack every time.

In fact I believe during the Rutgers game the announcer said after DJO hit one of his pulls ups...as he turned to run back up court..Buzz winked at him....probably to let him know...perfect!

I would expect him to end up at about 17 PPG this year, so we should expect him to average about 20 the rest of the year.

Next year he will be the main man and should be expected to go about 19+ per game. As he continues to score, we will find defenses designed to better stop him--he then needs to find other open men.
