They haven't officially said that he is fired, they are just saying at the moment that he is not coaching their next game.  CBS sportsline says they are unsure if he is suspended pending an NCAA hearing.

My hunch is there will be a "resignation" and subsequent buyout. His career is over. He's like Nick Nolte at the end of "Blue Chips." He should find a high school somewhere to coach.

I don't think his career is over. Too many phone calls is bad, but not THAT bad. It was the cover up that was his undoing. He'll get hired somewhere.

the only reason why I think he is done in D1... is he has seriously bugged the coaching fraternity that is so tight.  If you watched IU games, after the game, the handshake between Sampson and (insert coach here) were not pleasant, warm, the characteristics that usually comes with a handshake.  D2, D3 maybe, not D1 for a while.

I could see him ending up in a D1 program with far less scruples...

If that's the case, don't be surprised if he's at Fresno State by the end of the week.

i don't think lukewarm post game handshakes alienated him. if i'm a coach and he does a half ass handshake it pisses me off, but what would piss me off anymore is someone blatantly breaking the rules, especially if i "know" the coach

I don't think he's done in D1 b/c of lackluster handshaking, but b/c he is going to set the IU program back for years.  IU could go on probation for his transgressions and if they do, expect current players to transfer and incoming recruits to de-commit.  This is a bad time to be an IU fan. Its so bad, I'd rather be an Illinois fan as they at least have recruits coming in.

I was just stating that the handshake is a sign that they don't like him.  I left out the obvious reasons why they don't like him, that he cheats, goes behind programs basks to try and take their verbals (apparently he also did this to Ohio St with Oden and Conley Jr, along with Eric Gordon), he is a schmuck, and shouldn't be in Division 1 hoops.

If Larry Eustchey (sp) from Iowa st and fraternity party fame was hired at S. Miss, Sampson will get hired by someone similar.

He is done with any good D-1 program. Sampson is a fool, getting hammered for the same thing again. He is a joke.

I had the same thought as Talltitan. Timing I'm sure is a coincidence.
