People can always opt out of a class if they think they can win their own damn case

When Milli Vanilli gets sued for lip singing how much can one person make? But if 20 million each make a buck and they split it with the lawyers…

Lol. Milli Vanilli. Glad you brought up a case from 31 years ago.

I know one of the lawyers who cashed in. Glad you’re glad but who gives a crape if it was last month 31 years ago or 50 years ago? Class action suits by their very nature are prone to doing little for the litigants and lots for the lawyers. If you disagree please explain why. Thanks.

I don’t have much of an opinion on the topic. Maybe I should blame it on the rain.

Actually class actions do a lot for litigants. It may not be monetary. It could be replacement products, or even changes in the laws to protect consumers. But then again, almost everybody in the class is doing zero work. They can opt out and file their own lawsuit, pay their attorney, prove damages.

Take the Milli Vanilli case. If you are a plaintiff, what are your damages? I would  say, half jokingly, if you were dumb enough to buy a milli vanilli casette, thats on you. I think I read somewhere the attorneys made $675,000, not the 10 million you are stating.

The dumb people who bought a Milli Vanilli cassette should be grateful for the $3 they got. The lawyers who got $675, 000 did the world a public service and earned every penny.

LOL

Yeah, the dream for a plaintiff's lawyer is to find a case where 100 million people were damaged $1.00 and liability is certain. None of the plaintiffs actually give a crap about the case or the settlement and the lawyer can make a fortune.

My favorite was the cruise line case where the settlement was vouchers to use on a subsequent cruise. Brilliant.

I don't know if anyone is familiar with the Kronos ransomware attack in late 2021 that affected many employers. I'd love to know the total amount of attorneys' fees that incident has generated (paid by employers who largely did the best they could in an extremely difficult situation). I'm sure tens of millions. I'd love it if some law student would do that research and calculate the total.

Yes. From what I read, Plaintiffs received approximately 20 million, 675K is not that much in comparison. Again, Plaintiff's could have opted out and pursued the claims individually.

What really were the damages? If you bought the album, you still have those memories of when you thought it was being performed by those two.It would be as if the Louisville basketball fans tried to sue to get their ticket prices back when their National Championship was taken away.

My favorite one is when Equifax leaked 147 million people's personal data.  You're data is worth approximately $125... and that is the MAXIMUM PAYOUT.

Joe Jonas and Sophie Turner (Sansa on Game of Thrones) are divorcing after four years of marriage, Vogue reported.

I guess Jonas is lucky that Turner didn't end their relationship the way Sansa ended hers with Ramsay Bolton.

Where do you stand on the morals and ethics of running down the goober decked out head to toe in Notre Dame paraphernalia?    I know it was sorely tempting.
