Theoretically, it could be either. But common usage (and the first definition in nearly every dictionary I checked) defines coed as "a female student in a coeducational institution."

thanks for that gooo, interesting how the word is used.  note, a dorm becomes coed when females move in.  what about grad female students?  or does it only apply to undergrad?

I heard Shatner "sing" Mr. Tambourine man on xm radio about a week ago. WOW just Wow. I wasnt sure if that was the worst or best thing I ever heard.
