I never really understood the appeal of the blue shell.  If I'm in last, I'd much rather get the bullet or the lightning bolt, which would guarantee moving up 3-4 places, whereas a blue shell only hits the player in 1st, who I would have no chance of catching anyways.

He might not be an original, but I'd take it over the bolt.  If you get the bullet, you can go on autopilot and move up automatically, with the bolt, you can still screw yourself over by doing something stupid.

You can respect the classics while still appreciating what the new tech brings.  For example, team racing on the Wii, where one player is steering on the nunchuck, and the other is gas, break, and items on the Wiimote is a great team building exercise that can't be recreated on the 64. 

Side note, really disappointed that Crash Team Racing never got the sequel it deserved, could have gone head to head with Mario Kart IMO.
