New Preferred Walk-On, Jack Anderson is transferring in from Keystone College. Average 21 points a game for Keyston College, a D3 squad with a losing record. He shot 39.6% from three with 74 made last season. He was also an Academic All-American. Not expecting any meaningful minutes for him but there are certainly worse guys to have at the end of your bench.

Technically, they have a guaranteed opportunity to try to make the team. For all intents and purposes, he has a position on the team as a walk on, unless NIL $$ comes in and we get a 5 star recruit as a walk on.

When is the last time MU has had a preferred walk-on?  I’m only familiar with this term because the Badgers seem to do it quite often; I believe Carter Gilmore was a preferred walk-on before being given a scholarship after his freshman season (could be totally wrong about that, though).

So, I guess my understanding of a “preferred” walk-on is that a scholarship isn’t out of the question if there’s one open and the team has no one else to use it on.  But I admittedly have a very limited understanding.

Why don't you call Shaka and ask him? Some schools guarantee a spot, and are next in line if a scholarship miraculously opens up, others guarantee a walk on spot without having to "try out".
